{"id":237671,"date":"2026-01-14T15:03:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T15:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/237671\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T15:03:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T15:03:13","slug":"property-of-jewish-temple-destroyed-in-los-angeles-fires-vandalized-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/237671\/","title":{"rendered":"Property of Jewish temple destroyed in Los Angeles fires vandalized | Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The property of a Los Angeles-area Jewish temple that was destroyed in last year\u2019s wildfires was vandalized this week, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">On Sunday, a member of the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center spotted the lines \u201cFuck Zionism\u201d and \u201cRIP Renee\u201d spray-painted on an exterior wall on the campus \u2013 the second line an apparent reference to the killing of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis on 7 January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The incident was first reported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/01\/12\/us\/pasadena-synagogue-vandalized.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a>, and the PJTC confirmed it in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe are outraged by this despicable act of antisemitic vandalism, occurring just after we commemorated the one year anniversary of the destruction of our PJTC campus,\u201d said Josh Ratner, the senior rabbi of the PJTC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Ratner added that \u201cviolating our sacred space with hateful words is a reprehensible act\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Los Angeles county sheriff\u2019s department said it had received a report on Sunday morning about antisemitic graffiti. Deputies took photos and collected evidence, the department said in a statement, and hate crimes detectives with the major crimes bureau will investigate the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cActs of antisemitism and hate have no place in our diverse communities,\u201d said Ethan Marquez, the captain of the Altadena station. \u201cCrimes motivated by bias impact far more than a single victim, they harm the sense of safety and unity of our entire community \u2026 The community of Altadena has endured significant hardship over the past year and acts of hateful vandalism will not be tolerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The campus of PJTC, where the center had been housed since the 1940s, was destroyed in the Eaton fire. The incident comes just after the congregation and the broader community observed the one-year anniversary of the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Eaton fire killed 19 people and devastated Altadena, as well as parts of Pasadena and Sierra Madre, scorching a community garden, the country club, an 80-year-old hardware store, the Bunny Museum and numerous houses of worship, including the PJTC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In a statement, Kathryn Barger, an LA county supervisor, condemned the vandalism and said she was closely following the investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI am deeply disturbed by the vandalism and anti-Jewish graffiti discovered at the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center,\u201d she said in a statement. \u201cThis despicable hate crime targets a community that is still healing and rebuilding after last year\u2019s devastating Eaton Fire and has no place in Los Angeles county.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The synagogue said it was working with private security to prevent future acts of vandalism as well as the Jewish Federation\u2019s Community Security Initiative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe are a strong and resilient community.
