Did you know that Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie were in a movie together last year? You would be forgiven for forgetting. It was called “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” a romantic fantasy directed by indie darling Kogonada in one of the more obvious “one-for-thems” in recent memory. Despite the ample charms of Farrell and Robbie, as well as a few new songs by the Icelandic indie pop star Laufey and some confusingly prominent Burger King product placement, the film tanked critically and commercially, not even making back half of its $45 million budget.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Still, it at least seemed to be a fun shoot, with Farrell and Robbie getting along well. Heck, Farrell even made his co-star a chippy sandwich every day on set. The former “Banshees of Inisherin” star described his admiration for Robbie’s appetite on set, detailing the evening ritual of making her a sandwich for the next day. “It was my job at night to make a chippy sandwich \u2014 get a packet of Tayto Cheese & Onion [crisps\/chips] and put them between two pieces of white bread with lashings of Kerrygold butter,”\u00a0Farrell said (via Instagram<\/a>).<\/p>\n

And hey, who among us wouldn’t make a sandwich for Margot Robbie, especially such a low-maintenance lunch as this? For her part, Robbie appreciated his effort. “I ate one every single day. It was my favorite part of this job,” she said.<\/p>\n

Now, here’s where we’ll quibble a bit with terminology. Although Colin\u00a0Farrell described what he made for Margot Robbie as a “chippy sandwich,” that name usually refers to a chip butty, a staple of British working class cuisine \u2014 which, of course, means it uses chips as Brits know them (fries, as we Yanks know them). What Farrell made is more accurately called a crisp sandwich \u2014 made, true to his Irish blood, with Ireland’s most popular brand of crisp, as well as its internationally beloved Kerrygold butter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Is a crisp sandwich simple to make<\/a>? Sure it is, but that has its place, doesn’t it? We all love a sandwich piled high with ingredients (so long as the sandwich doesn’t fall apart<\/a>, anyway), but it doesn’t have to stretch your jaw (or your budget, for that matter) to be delicious. Who can resist something so salty, so crunchy, with a few smears of rich butter to class up the joint? Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that your crisp sandwich will be made by acclaimed actor and general heartthrob Colin Farrell, but we can guarantee you’ll get a pretty tasty explosion of carbohydrates.<\/p>\n
