The woman who claimed to be the \u201csecret daughter\u201d of Queen<\/a> legend Freddie Mercury<\/a> has died at the age of 48.<\/p>\n

Reports that the late frontman may have had a daughter first came to light last May, when a new biography called Love, Freddie was published<\/a>. It explores the life of the \u2018Bohemian Rhapsody\u2019 singer and alleged that the child was conceived accidentally during an affair with the wife of a close friend in 1976.<\/p>\n

The woman was only referred to as \u201cB\u201d throughout the book, and she claimed that Mercury kept a close relationship with her until his death in 1991. The biography \u2013 written by journalist Lesley-Ann Jones \u2013 also claimed that he would visit her regularly and give her 17 volumes of detailed personal journals.<\/p>\n

Today (Thursday January 15), it has been confirmed that \u201cB\u201d has died, aged 48.<\/p>\n

The news was shared by her husband, Thomas, who shared a statement with the Daily Mail<\/a>. In it, he said that she died \u201cpeacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer\u201d and has left behind \u201ctwo sons aged nine and seven\u201d.<\/p>\n

Thomas also said that \u201cB\u201d was \u201cnow with her beloved and loving father in the world of thoughts\u201d, and had her ashes scattered over the Alps.<\/p>\n

Jones also shared a statement following news of \u201cB\u201d\u2019s death, and said (via The Independent<\/a>): \u201cI am devastated by the loss of this woman who became my close friend, who had come to me with a selfless aim: to brush aside all those who have had free rein with Freddie\u2019s story for 32 years, to challenge their lies and their rewriting of his life, and to deliver the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Love, Freddie was shared last year, it was believed that only Mercury\u2019s inner circle were aware of \u201cB\u201d\u2019s existence.<\/p>\n

There was widespread doubt too about if \u201cB\u201d was actually the daughter of the rock legend, and Jones told the Daily Mail that when she was approached by \u201cB\u201d three years ago, her first \u201cinstinct was to doubt everything, but I am absolutely sure she is not a fantasist.\u201d
\u201cNo one could have faked all this. Why would she have worked with me for three and a half years, never demanding anything?,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The journalist also alleged that Queen\u2019s songs \u2018Don\u2019t Try So Hard\u2019 and \u2018Bijou\u2019 were written about \u201cB\u201d, as per The Independent.<\/p>\n

Scepticism about the claims came from Mercury\u2019s former girlfriend and close friend Mary Austin, who said that the singer \u201chad a glorious openness and I cannot imagine he would have wanted to, or been able to, keep such a joyful event a secret, either from me or other people closest to him\u201d.<\/p>\n

Queen bandmate Brian May<\/a> also said he wanted to remain \u201cneutral\u201d on the subject, although his wife Anita Dobson described B\u2019s claims as \u201cfake news\u201d.<\/p>\n

The comments prompted \u201cB\u201d to speak out for the first time in August<\/a> last year. She told the Daily Mail<\/a> that she was \u201cdevastated\u201d by Austin\u2019s comments, and once again said that she had a \u201cvery close and loving\u201d relationship with her father, who she says treated her \u201clike a treasured possession\u201d.<\/p>\n
