{"id":240188,"date":"2026-01-15T22:40:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T22:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/240188\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T22:40:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T22:40:07","slug":"nick-reiner-put-into-mental-health-conservatorship-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/240188\/","title":{"rendered":"Nick Reiner put into mental health conservatorship in 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rob Reiner\u2019s troubled son Nick was under a strict, court-ordered mental health conservatorship \u2014 that is reserved only for the sickest adults \u2014 before he allegedly\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/tag\/rob-reiner-murder\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">stabbed his mom and director dad<\/a>\u00a0to death in their Brentwood home, according to a new report.<\/p>\n<p>A judge placed the young Reiner into a yearlong conservatorship that involved him receiving involuntary psychiatric treatment in 2020.\u00a0Steven Baer, a licensed fiduciary in LA County, was appointed to be the conservator for Reiner, according to the New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>The California legal restraint \u2014 called Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) \u2014 is only applied to people deemed to have a \u201cgrave disability,\u201d meaning they are unable to provide for their own food, clothing, or shelter due to a\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/19\/us-news\/nick-reiner-was-diagnosed-with-schizophrenia-altered-meds-made-him-out-of-his-head-before-he-allegedly-murdered-parents-sources-say\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">mental health disorder.<\/a><br \/>\u201cYou have to be pretty severe to be placed on a mental health conservatorship in California,\u201d Lee Blumen, a lawyer with expertise on the matter, told the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/01\/15\/us\/nick-reiner-conservatorship-schizophrenia.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.80664063;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38194417\" width=\"476\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/photo-denise-truscello-getty-images-117394866_0799a3.jpg\" alt=\"Nick Reiner attending the Four Sixes Ranch Steakhouse pop-up grand opening.\" class=\"wp-image-38194417\"  \/>Nick Reiner was placed into a yearlong conservatorship that involved him receiving involuntary psychiatric treatment in 2020, according to a new report. Be the first to know about launch and home delivery.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>It allows a guardian to make medical and medication decisions for patients \u2014 against their will if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old, who has a history of drug addiction dating back to his teen years, was reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder \u201cat different times,\u201d a source told the Times.
