Ashton Kutcher<\/a> isn\u2019t bothered by the comparisons between his new TV series and the 2024 film \u201cThe Substance,\u201d which starred his ex, Demi Moore<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The actor returns to the small screen next week in FX\u2019s \u201cThe Beauty<\/a>,\u201d in which he plays a biotech billionaire who unveils a cosmetic superdrug with some grisly side effects. The series appears to share themes with \u201cThe Substance<\/a>,\u201d in which Moore portrayed Elisabeth Sparkle, a Hollywood actor turned fitness guru who goes to deadly extremes to appear youthful. <\/p>\n

Speaking to \u201cEntertainment Tonight<\/a>\u201d this week, Kutcher offered some words of praise for Moore, to whom he was married from 2005 to 2013, while noting how \u201cThe Beauty\u201d differs from \u201cThe Substance.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDemi\u2019s performance in \u2018The Substance,\u2019 like, obviously she got extraordinary accolades \u2015 I\u2019m so proud of her, she killed it,\u201d he said. \u201cThe bigger context, though, is we\u2019re in a society where cosmetic enhancement is becoming increasingly predominant and accepted. It\u2019s a weird thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to note: \u201cI think [co-creator Ryan Murphy<\/a>] really wanted to explore that beauty is very different for each one of these characters … and sometimes, these things come with unintended consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the most part, Kutcher and Moore have been tight-lipped about the end of their marriage. In her 2019 memoir \u201cInside Out<\/a>,\u201d however, Moore claimed she\u2019d brought \u201ca third party into our relationship\u201d at Kutcher\u2019s request, after which he began straying from their marriage entirely, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was strangely flooded with shame,\u201d she wrote, according to People<\/a>. \u201cI couldn\u2019t shake the feeling that this whole thing was somehow my fault.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2015, Kutcher married<\/a> his former \u201cThat \u201970s Show\u201d co-star Mila Kunis<\/a>, with whom he shares two children. <\/p>\n

Shortly after the release of Moore\u2019s book, Kutcher shared that he\u2019d kept in touch with his former stepdaughters Rumer Willis, Scout Willis and Tallulah Willis \u2015 whom Moore shares with her first husband, actor Bruce Willis<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI loved them, and I\u2019m never gonna stop loving them and respecting them and honoring them and rooting for them to be successful in whatever they\u2019re pursuing,\u201d he explained on the \u201cWTF with Marc Maron<\/a>\u201d podcast. <\/p>\n

As for where his relationship with Moore stands, he said, \u201cIt\u2019s all good, we don\u2019t hang out … there\u2019s no badness.\u201d <\/p>\n

Moore has been enjoying a professional renaissance of sorts ever since her chilling, no-holds-barred performance in \u201cThe Substance\u201d garnered her major critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination. She\u2019s set to return to the big screen in \u201cI Love Boosters<\/a>,\u201d which also stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie and LaKeith Stanfield, later this year. <\/p>\n
