This means I am Type A most of the time, like when I\u2019m <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/uk\/travel\/a62825534\/health-travel-wellness-travel-destinations-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/uk\/travel\/a62825534\/health-travel-wellness-travel-destinations-2025\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"travelling\" data-node-id=\"1.1\" class=\"body-link css-156jt4g emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">travelling<\/a>, or how my calendar and to-do list are my lifelines. Still, I lean more toward Type B when it comes to my unread text messages or how many times I snooze my alarm (hint: both are high numbers).  <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"body-text css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">But one thing I am most certainly extra Type A about is my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/uk\/beauty\/a69903133\/wellness-awards-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/uk\/beauty\/a69903133\/wellness-awards-2026\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"wellness routine\" data-node-id=\"4.1\" class=\"body-link css-156jt4g emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wellness routine<\/a>. I recently created a shared note on my iPhone with my friend that listed out every supplement or health powder I take, when I take them, and links to the products. But my newest wellness obsession has nothing to do with an ingestible boost \u2013 it\u2019s a device that may transport you back to an &#8217;80s workout video \u00e0 la Olivia Newton-John. <\/p>\n<p>What is a vibration plate?<\/p>\n<p id=\"what-is-a-vibration-plate\" data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"body-text css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Vibration plates are all over my TikTok algorithm, but the device was widely used in the 1970s and &#8217;80s by athletes to improve performance and recovery. &#8220;They were first used in rehab and even in astronaut training to help prevent muscle and bone loss, but now they\u2019ve become popular in gyms and at home for general fitness and wellness,&#8221; says Jeff Paul, the director of personal training at Chelsea Piers Fitness.<\/p>\n<p id=\"what-is-a-vibration-plate\" data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"14\" class=\"body-text css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Today, it seems as though every other person on my For Your Page has incorporated the vibrating plate into their routine, so I decided to see what all of the chatter was about for myself. &#8220;Vibration plates gently vibrate while you stand, sit, or exercise on them. Those small, rapid vibrations make your muscles contract many times per second \u2013 way more than they would during a normal workout,&#8221; adds Paul. &#8220;When used correctly, vibration plates can help improve circulation and lymphatic flow, which supports recovery and reduces fluid buildup.&#8221;<br data-node-id=\"14.1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Related Story<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"17\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">It seems simple: a vibrating plate, but while you stand on the jiggling, high-motion platform (although speed settings are adjustable), your muscles are gently activated to promote the flow of the lymphatic system, aid workout recovery, and increase blood circulation. These plates claim to activate hundreds of muscles (even those that your regular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/uk\/wellness\/a29498314\/reformer-pilates\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/uk\/wellness\/a29498314\/reformer-pilates\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Pilates\" data-node-id=\"17.1\" class=\"body-link css-156jt4g emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pilates<\/a> or cycling class can\u2019t target), which can help with a slight increase in muscle mass. It also claims to increase bone density, helping to prevent osteoporosis, a condition that often occurs naturally as we age. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"19\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8220;Research supports vibration plates [are beneficial] for muscle strengthening, improved bone density, and reduced risk of falls,&#8221; says <a href=\"https:\/\/makeawavecincy.com\/staff\/dr-sara-koehl\/\" title=\"https:\/\/makeawavecincy.com\/staff\/dr-sara-koehl\/\" data-outlook-id=\"b5d37c09-6570-46a6-b24c-68a14f14e4a5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/makeawavecincy.com\/staff\/dr-sara-koehl\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Sarah Koehl\" data-node-id=\"19.1\" class=\"body-link css-156jt4g emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Koehl<\/a>, doctor of physical therapy at Wave Physical Therapy &amp; Pilates. &#8220;They can be particularly helpful for older adults or for anyone who cannot perform traditional strength training at higher loads.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"21\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">When shopping for vibration plates, I came across several categories \u2013 the two most popular being linear and oscillating, which move from side to side and tend to be gentler on joints. I opted for the latter option from LifePro. They can be used for lymphatic drainage, which was my motivation for adopting the device. Alternatively, you can work out on top of the plate, incorporating it into a push-up or squat routine to intensify the exercise. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"27\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Using the device is pretty simple, as I stand on top of the plate for 10 minutes a day and let the vibrations do the work. When I first started using the LifePro Vibra device, I used it on a speed setting of two, but I\u2019ve worked my way up to six. What I love about the LifePro Vibra is that it is voice-controlled and comes with a remote, allowing me to change the speed and treatment time with my voice or the touch of my fingers\u2014without getting off the plate mid-session.<br data-node-id=\"27.1\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"29\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Paul urges not to overuse or overdo your time on a vibrating plate. &#8220;Too high a setting or too long a session can cause joint discomfort or dizziness,&#8221; he explains. &#8220;If you have a pacemaker, recent surgery, or any medical condition, definitely check with your doctor first. Otherwise, start slow and see how your body responds.&#8221;<br data-node-id=\"29.1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Do vibration plates work?<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"32\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">I consistently used the LifePro Vibra for 10 minutes every morning, usually after a workout, to aid in recovery and reduce morning bloat. I\u2019ve heard stories of people who experienced immediate bowel movements or reduced bloating after using the device. While my results haven&#8217;t been that severe, I\u2019ve definitely noticed a difference since using it. First, my muscles feel less sore, even after trying new workouts that target different muscle groups than usual. I also love using the plate as an extra layer of lymphatic drainage because the movement kickstarts my lymphatic system and helps avoid stagnant fluid, even on days when I don\u2019t work out. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"34\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8220;Vibration plates are not a magic solution,&#8221; Paul says. &#8220;You\u2019ll get the most out of them when you pair the vibration with movement. So rather than just standing on it, try doing squats, lunges, or balance work. That\u2019s when you\u2019ll see real improvements in muscle engagement, circulation, and stability. On their own, they\u2019re more of a supplement to your training than a replacement for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"36\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">One thing to note is that the device is bulky, especially in a small New York City apartment, like mine. However, it can easily slide under a bed or behind a dresser.
