Jennifer Lawrence<\/a> may have starred in box office smashes such as \u201cThe Hunger Games\u201d<\/a> and the \u201cX-Men\u201d franchise, but she has missed out on at least one major movie role \u2014 and this, she says, is down to her looks.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winner claims she was not cast in Quentin Tarantino\u2019s<\/a> 2019 period drama \u201cOnce Upon a Time\u2026 In Hollywood\u201d<\/a> because people said she \u201cwasn\u2019t pretty enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the \u201cHappy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz\u201d<\/a> live podcast, released Monday, Lawrence discussed the list of filmmakers she wants to work with.<\/p>\n

\u201cTarantino\u2019s been chasing you. He wants you,\u201d Horowitz said to Lawrence while pointing at her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know about that,\u201d the actress responded.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s true. No, he said that,\u201d Horowitz insisted. \u201c\u2019Hateful Eight.\u2019 The Jennifer Jason Leigh part was originally written for you, I believe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI turned it down, which I should not have done,\u201d Lawrence interjected, before they both laughed.<\/p>\n

Tarantino told Entertainment Weekly<\/a> in 2015 that he was a \u201chuge Jennifer Lawrence fan\u201d and had approached her about playing the fugitive Daisy Domergue in the 2015 mystery thriller \u201cThe Hateful Eight,\u201d but Lawrence was too busy with \u201call this publicity on the \u2018Hunger Games\u2019 movies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I think \u2018Once Upon a Time\u2026 In Hollywood,\u2019 too, didn\u2019t he want you?\u201d asked Horowitz.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, he did and then everybody was like, \u2018She\u2019s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate,\u2019 and then they didn\u2019t,\u201d Lawrence said.<\/p>\n

After a sympathetic reaction from the crowd, she continued, \u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unconvinced, Horowitz said, \u201cThat\u2019s not true.\u201d<\/p>\n

To which Lawrence responded, \u201cI\u2019m pretty sure it is true. Or it\u2019s that thing where I\u2019ve been telling this story this way for so long that I believe it. No, but I \u2014 I\u2019m pretty sure that happened \u2014 or, he just never was considering me for the part and the internet just, like, went out of their way to call me ugly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Margot Robbie was cast to play Sharon Tate<\/a> in the film, based on the real-life actress and model who was a victim of the 1969 Manson Murders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Months ahead of the movie release, Tate\u2019s sister, Debra, told TMZ<\/a> that she would prefer Margot Robbie for the role over Lawrence because of Robbie\u2019s \u201cphysical beauty, and the way she even carries herself is similar to that of Sharon,\u201d adding that Lawrence is \u201cnot pretty enough to play Sharon. That\u2019s a horrible thing to say but, you know, I have my standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rather than casting her as Sharon Tate, Tarantino said in 2021 on the \u201cWTF with Marc Maron\u201d<\/a> podcast that he had \u201cinvestigated the idea of Jennifer Lawrence playing Squeaky,\u201d a follower of Charles Manson. He added that she went to his house and read a script but, in the end, \u201cit didn\u2019t work out, but she\u2019s a very nice person and I respect her as an actress.\u201d The role was played by Dakota Fanning.<\/p>\n

Later on Horowitz\u2019s podcast, Lawrence said, deadpan, that she auditioned for \u201cTwilight\u201d but \u201cdidn\u2019t get that \u2018cause I guess I was too ugly.\u201d<\/p>\n
