Netflix<\/a> subscribers need to get ready for a dark weekend binge, because the three best movies to watch on the streaming service in the coming days definitely land on the somber side. Currently, we are between the Christmas season, which is notably a cheerful time for movies, and Valentine’s Day, which brings a set of lighter rom-com movies<\/a> to the streamer.<\/p>\n

As such, I’m convinced now is the time to dive into some of Netflix’s darkest offerings<\/a>. To help with that, a new Netflix original movie<\/a> has just landed on the platform, featuring two of Hollywood’s biggest stars as its leads. Joining that film is an erotic thriller, as well as a Sci-Fi thriller that is set to leave Netflix soon.<\/p>\n

3 <\/p>\n

The Rip (2026)<\/p>\n

Starting us off could be no other movie. The Rip is Netflix’s major new release, bringing back the tag team of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The movie tells the story of Miami cops who find millions at a stash house. At the sight of such a huge amount of money, the cops begin to distrust one another.<\/p>\n

Beyond its two main stars, The Rip’s cast<\/a> includes many other talented names. Fresh off One Battle After Another is Teyana Taylor, joined by Academy Award-nominee Steven Yeun, and names like former Supergirl actress Sasha Calle and DC’s new Green Lantern \u2014 the Hal Jordan version in HBO’s Lanterns \u2014 Kyle Chandler. The Rip makes for an intense watch.<\/p>\n

Bone Lake (2025)<\/p>\n

\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200bSure, The Rip has a serious tone, but the other two entries on the list go even darker. For those looking for a dash of romance on their weekend programming, look no further than the erotic thriller Bone Lake on Netflix. The movie focuses on a couple, Sage and Diego, who have to spend their getaway trip at a lakeside house with another duo.<\/p>\n

However, things quickly take a turn to the macabre as the couple they meet go from outgoing to downright unsettling in the worst possible ways. After a quiet release in theaters in 2025, Bone Lake is already emerging as a streaming favorite, becoming the 7th most-watched film on Netflix in the United States. The thriller is worth checking out for those who have not watched it yet.<\/p>\n

Donnie Darko (2001)<\/p>\n

Donnie Darko, which stars a young Jake Gyllenhaal, will be leaving Netflix on Sunday, January 18. As such, those looking for a rewatch of the Sci-Fi classic or thinking about putting on the film for the first time only have two days to do it.<\/p>\n

Donnie Darko tells the story of a teenager dealing with his mental health and the universe’s impending doom after having survived a jet engine crashing in his bedroom \u2014 he was not home at the time. From there on out, the movie takes Donnie on a surreal journey as he comes to understand his role in the larger scheme of the multiverse.
