It\u2019s one thing to be hip-checked straight into the zeitgeist\u2014it\u2019s quite another to do so as a horological influencer. It seems like Connor Storrie<\/a>, the 25-year-old breakout star of Heated Rivalry<\/a>, has figured out how to do both.<\/p>\n

Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Storrie wore the IWC Portofino Complete Calendar,<\/a> a large, contemporary take on a relatively little-seen complication<\/a>. While annual and perpetual calendars<\/a> are all the rage, \u201ccomplete\u201d (or \u201ctriple\u201d) calendars are less common. Requiring manual adjustment at the end of each month, they\u2019ve largely been superseded by their more sophisticated brethren. A handful of manufacturers still offer them, however, which is a welcome thing considering the eye-watering MSRPs of annual and perpetual calendars.<\/p>\n

The Portofino Complete Calendar\u2014which is part of a dressy collection introduced by IWC<\/a> in 1984\u2014measures 41mm in 18K 5N yellow gold. At nearly 12mm thick, it doesn\u2019t possess the wafer-thin proportions of, say, a Piaget<\/a> or the diminutive loveliness of a vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava<\/a>, but that\u2019s not really the point. The ref. IW359002 may feature pocket watch-influenced aesthetics, but it\u2019s a thoroughly modern timepiece with modern proportions, ideal for someone with a larger wrist who wants a dressy, complicated piece to wear on evenings out\u2026or on late-night TV.<\/p>\n

Featuring a silver-plated dial, the Complete Calendar boasts an unusual \u201cup-down\u201d display: Below 12 o\u2019clock is a combination moonphase<\/a> and day indicator, while above 6 o\u2019clock is a combination date and month indicator. Finished with applied gold hour indices and a matching gold leaf handset, it\u2019s powered by IWC\u2019s cal. 32150 automatic movement, which provides 72 hours of power reserve and is visible via the caseback. At $23,700, this is no entry-level selection, but it\u2019s (relatively) more accessible than the brand\u2019s perpetual calendar models, let alone IWC\u2019s mind-bending Eternal Calendar<\/a>, which lists for nearly $200K.<\/p>\n

And if you need further proof that Storrie has become inculcated with a healthy respect for haute horlogerie, you should note that the ref. 32150 isn\u2019t the only high-end watch that he\u2019s worn recently: Just this week, he also rocked a more complicated IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Watch on The Today Show, a Tiffany & Co. Union Square at The Golden Globes,<\/a> and, earlier in January, a Hublot Classic Fusion King Gold 38mm to the 32nd Annual Actor Awards Nominations at SAG-AFTRA. At this rate, it\u2019s only a matter of time before we find him nursing a beer at a RedBar<\/a> meeting or roaming the halls of Watches and Wonders<\/a>. We\u2019d tell him to watch out for the legions of adoring fans, but let\u2019s be real\u2014they\u2019ll probably be at the IWC booth, noses pressed up against the glass.<\/p>\n
