No stranger to filming an intense action scene, Matt Damon<\/a> is learning to slow down and let the audience catch up.<\/p>\n

While discussing his and Ben Affleck<\/a>\u2018s new Netflix<\/a> movie The Rip<\/a>, the Oscar winner explained that movies now require a \u201cvery different level of attention\u201d when they\u2019re made available to stream at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat has a big effect, and it\u2019s also starting to have an effect on how you make movies,\u201d he explained on the Joe Rogan Experience<\/a>, using Netflix as an example.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe standard way to make an action movie that we learned was, you usually have three set pieces. One in the first act, one in the second, one in the third. And the kinda ramp up to the big one with all the explosions. You spend most of your money on that one in the third act. That\u2019s your finale. And now they\u2019re like, \u2018Can we get a big one in the first five minutes? We want people to stay tuned in.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Damon continued, \u201c\u2018And it wouldn\u2019t be terrible if you reiterated the plot three or four times in the dialogue because people are on their phones while they\u2019re watching.’\u201d<\/p>\n

This policy is not new as Netflix writers have reportedly been told by the streamer to have their characters \u201cannounce what they\u2019re doing<\/a>\u201d in the dialogue.<\/p>\n

Apparently no exception to this rule, The Rip stars Damon and Affleck as part of a team of Miami cops who begins to turn on each other after discovering $20 million in a derelict stash house, bringing outside forces into the mix as they struggle to determine who can be trusted.<\/p>\n

Affleck noted, \u201cBut then you look at Adolescence, and it didn\u2019t do any of that sh*t. And it\u2019s f*cking great. And it\u2019s dark too. It\u2019s tragic and intense. [It\u2019s about] this guy who finds out his kid is accused of murder, and there are long shots of the back of their heads. They get in the car, nobody says anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Damon calls the Golden Globe-winning Netflix series \u201cthe exception,\u201d but Affleck feels it \u201cdemonstrates you don\u2019t have to do\u201d those tricks to keep people invested.<\/p>\n
