After the Flood, the “thrilling” crime drama starring Sophie Rundle and Lorraine Ashbourne, is back on TV tonight. With a brand-new case and some additional cast members, how will the ITV series fare on its return? <\/a><\/p>\n

The series<\/a> takes place in a small English town that has been beset by floods, with the first season following Constable Jo Marshall (Rundle) investigating the death of an unidentified man after a body is unearthed.<\/p>\n

Now, after being promoted to detective, Jo takes on a “baffling” new murder case, with the character also having some personal interest in the matter. With the potential to reduce corruption in Waterside, can Jo succeed?<\/p>\n

After an absence of two years, After the Flood is finally back on the small screen, with the second season<\/a> kicking off tonight at 9pm on ITV1. The follow-up episode will air on Monday at the same time, with both also coming to streaming service ITVX<\/a> afterwards.<\/p>\n

“As tensions simmer in Waterside amid the rising threat of moorland fires and the subsequent risk of further flooding, a body is discovered in bizarre circumstances,” reads the logline for the second season. <\/p>\n

“One that will require her to operate in secret if she is to have any hope of rooting out the corruption that has blighted the town’s police force – and her own family – for decades,” it concludes.<\/p>\n

In addition to Rundle and Ashbourne, who plays Molly Marshal, the cast for the series includes Jonas Armstong, Faye McKeever and Philip Glenister. Jill Halfpenny, meanwhile, has been added to the line-up for the second season.<\/p>\n

Upon its release in 2024, After the Flood was generally well received by viewers, with IMDb<\/a> currently reporting a solid average user rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 4600 reviews. In one review, one user<\/a> said the series got “better and better” as it went along.<\/p>\n

“This is a really good story and in parts thrilling story about a small community where everyone knows everybody else. It’s a story about a murder but there are more aspects unfolding over time and the main characters are developing over time,” wrote another user<\/a>.<\/p>\n
