World Triathlon held its annual staff meeting in Marrakech over four days, under the leadership of President Antonio Arimany. The meeting was generously hosted by Mr Elkhalil Binebine at his residence in Marrakech; Mr Binebine, a PTO investor and active triathlete, has strong and long\u2011standing links with the global triathlon community.<\/p>\n
The annual staff meeting in Marrakech placed particular emphasis on aligning the entire organisation around the long\u2011term strategy and the key priorities for 2026 and beyond, with the agreement with PTO to deliver the Triathlon World Tour from 2027 together in the heart of all discussions and operational planning. A clear understanding was that the coming year must lay the foundations for sustainable growth, clearer ways of working and a stronger presence for World Triathlon across all levels of the sport.<\/p>\n
President Antonio Arimany underlined the cultural shift that will be required to deliver on this vision, stating: \u201cWe need to evolve our mentality and our ways of working to match the new leadership and the strategies approved by the Executive Board. I am fully confident that this team will rise to the challenge and help make our sport stronger, more resilient and with a very bright future ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n
A core objective was to ensure that every member of the organisation clearly understands the strategic vision for the next cycle and how 2026 and 2027 fit into that roadmap. This included clarifying performance targets, development priorities, commercial ambitions and the role of innovation in event formats, data collection and fan engagement. A new internal structure sees cross\u2011functional team leaders create a collaborative work flow across all areas. Accelerating strategic decision\u2011making across the broader strategic vision across events, services and projects.<\/p>\n
The Triathlon World Tour and the long\u2011term partnership with the PTO were highlighted as the central pillars of this vision. Key leadership spent significant time with newly appointed Secretary General Jon Wyatt on reviewing the new vision, to be launched in 2027, will integrated with existing World Triathlon properties and how 2026 will be used as a transition year to test formats, strengthen governance processes and optimise the calendar in preparation for the TWT launch. Particular attention was paid to ensuring athlete\u2011centred decision\u2011making, harmonised rankings and qualification pathways, and a unified commercial narrative that benefits both organisations and the wider triathlon ecosystem.\u200b<\/p>\n
The meeting also explored how cooperation with the PTO and other private organisers can be leveraged beyond the elite level to grow mass\u2011participation events, attract new audiences and improve broadcast and digital storytelling around the sport. By aligning on this long\u2011term strategy and clearly defining 2026 priorities, the leadership team committed to working as one integrated group, ready to implement the organisational changes required to support the successful launch and long\u2011term impact of the Triathlon World Tour<\/p>\n
Other key objectives of the meeting were to keep an open dialogue with the entire team on the continued development of the HYROX partnership, as well as the Swimrun partnership and many other private organisers who\u2019ve asked for closer collaboration with TRI.
