If you\u2019re reading this while watching a movie, you\u2019re doing exactly what Netflix predicted. Oops. The Rip<\/a> star Matt Damon<\/a>\u00a0told Joe Rogan<\/a> that Netflix anticipates its audience will be distracted while watching movies, so it asked filmmakers to make changes to keep their attention or to remind them what the movie is about. \u201cThe standard way to make an action movie that we learned was, You usually have three set pieces. One in the first act, one in the second, one in the third,\u201d Damon explained. \u201cYou spend most of your money on that one in the third act. That\u2019s your finale. And now they\u2019re like, \u2018Can we get a big one in the first five minutes? We want people to stay. And it wouldn\u2019t be terrible if you reiterated the plot three or four times in the dialogue because people are on their phones while they\u2019re watching.\u2019\u201d He also stated that the bar is \u201ca lot higher for walking out of a movie theater\u201d than changing the channel at home.<\/p>\n

Ben Affleck (they\u2019re always together, don\u2019tcha know) added that Adolescence<\/a> didn\u2019t use any of Netflix\u2019s tricks to keep its audience\u2019s attention and it was \u201cone of the best things Netflix has ever done.\u201d \u201cMy feeling is just that it demonstrates that you don\u2019t need to do any of that shit to get people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
