{"id":255301,"date":"2026-01-24T12:14:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T12:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/255301\/"},"modified":"2026-01-24T12:14:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T12:14:16","slug":"israel-reportedly-seeks-limits-on-palestinian-re-entry-as-rafah-crossing-set-to-reopen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/255301\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel Reportedly Seeks Limits on Palestinian Re-entry as Rafah Crossing Set to Reopen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Israel is reportedly planning to restrict the number of Palestinians entering Gaza through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt to ensure more people leave the enclave than return, as officials prepare to reopen the crossing next week, Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/israel-aims-ensure-more-palestinians-are-let-out-gaza-than-back-2026-01-23\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Shaath, head of a US-backed transitional Palestinian committee tasked with temporarily administering Gaza, announced on Thursday that the Rafah Border Crossing would reopen next week. Rafah serves as the only effective route in or out of Gaza for the majority of the two million people living there.<\/p>\n<p>The crossing was originally due to open during the first phase of US President <a href=\"https:\/\/barlamantoday.com\/2026\/01\/22\/eight-arab-and-muslim-countries-to-join-trump-led-board-of-peace-on-gaza\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump\u2019s plan<\/a> to end the war, following an October ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. But that opening never took place.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Washington said the plan had entered its second phase. Under that stage, Israel is expected to further withdraw its troops from Gaza, while Hamas is expected to relinquish control of the territory\u2019s administration.
