The Washington Wizards<\/a> made headlines earlier this season with a stunning trade for All-Star guard Trae Young<\/a>. Before the trade deadline, the Wizards may pull the trigger on another blockbuster deal.<\/p>\n

Writing for The Athletic, NBA reporter Sam Amick reported that Washington has expressed interest in Sacramento Kings<\/a> star Domantas Sabonis.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeanwhile, big man Domantas Sabonis<\/a> is still worth monitoring in the weeks ahead. When Toronto rolled through town on Wednesday, it wasn\u2019t all that hard to imagine him putting on a Raptors jersey sometime soon. While Washington, Phoenix and Chicago are known to have had some interest in Sabonis, league sources confirmed reports that Toronto is a legitimate possibility as we approach the deadline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sabonis, a three-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection, has drawn widespread interest across the league.<\/p>\n

While the Toronto Raptors are viewed as the most likely destination<\/a> for the Kings forward, the Wizards would be an interest option.<\/p>\n

This season is beyond salvaging for Washington, but the Wizards could build toward a better tomorrow with a trade for Sabonis.<\/p>\n

Pairing the All-Star forward with Young would provide Washington with two offensive maestros capable of fueling the offense.<\/p>\n

Sabonis missed 27 games this season with a knee injury, but was averaging a near triple-double when healthy.<\/p>\n

From 2022 to 2025, the Kings forward averaged 19.2 points, 13.3 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 60 percent from the floor.<\/p>\n

His 50 triple-doubles in the last four seasons is the second-most by any player over that span. Only Denver Nuggets<\/a> star Nikola Jokic<\/a> (104) has more.<\/p>\n

In Washington, Sabonis could thrive as a point-forward and secondary floor general to the newly-minted Young.<\/p>\n

With two unselfish stars running the offense, Washington could establish a free-flowing brand of basketball with multiple contributors.<\/p>\n

Sabonis\u2019 high IQ and field goal efficiency would be a welcome addition to a Wizards team that ranks eighth in pace but bottom five in points per game.<\/p>\n

Plus, if the Wizards manage to acquire Sabonis without trading their 2026 first-round draft pick, they could unite the Kings forward with Young\u00a0and\u00a0a potential budding star.<\/p>\n

Doing so would give Washington a strong triumvirate to build on.<\/p>\n

While the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls<\/a> and Wizards have all expressed interest, the Toronto Raptors are viewed as the favorite to land the Kings\u2019 star.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s worth noting that the Raptors\u2019 RJ Barrett, who is owed $27.7 million this season and $29.6 million next season, was drafted No. 3 overall out of Duke by current Kings general manager Scott Perry in 2019, when Perry held the same position with the Knicks<\/a>,\u201d Amick wrote. \u201cThe two old friends shared a warm hug and extended conversation before the game [on Wednesday] at Golden 1 Center.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a potential package for the three-time All-Star, the Raptors are reportedly willing to deal multiple starters, according to\u00a0TSN reporter Josh Lewenberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the Toronto native Barrett would likely prefer to stay with the Raptors, he could be reunited with Kings general manager Scott Perry in exchange for Sabonis.<\/p>\n
