Read more: https:\/\/t.co\/9GJWnmQcLU<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 MRC NewsBusters (@newsbusters) December 28, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n Now, the FCC is warning that these shows must give \u201cequal time\u201d to opposing candidates.<\/a><\/p>\n \u2026a decades-old federal law requiring any FCC-licensed broadcaster that lets a political candidate appear on its airwaves to also offer \u201cequal opportunities\u201d to all other candidates running for the same office. The law exempts \u201cbona fide newscasts\u201d and news interviews from the equal time rule.<\/p>\n Most libertarians would balk at applying this rule. Many conservatives, too.<\/p>\n Kimmel, who milked his 2025 suspension for misleading viewers about the alleged killer of Charlie Kirk\u2019s alleged killer, played the victim card again after the FCC news broke.<\/p>\n He needs Americans to save his show, just like they did last time. Or so he claimed.<\/p>\n Except it was an affiliates\u2019 revolt which benched him, and the general public had nothing to do with his return to the airwaves.<\/p>\n (For what it\u2019s worth, he should have returned to ABC)<\/p>\n The \u201cequal time\u201d issue exists, in part, because late-night TV is so cartoonishly biased both in its guest selection and in its interviews. The shows aren\u2019t simply cracking wise with consequential figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Gov. J.B. Pritzker.<\/p>\n They\u2019re coordinating their messaging, amplifying pre-approved talking points and serving as a de facto campaign ad. The FCC does have an argument here, but let\u2019s put that aside.<\/p>\n Why wouldn\u2019t a Kimmel or Colbert have some Republican senators or governors on their show? The ensuing debate could be fascinating. It would make for dramatic TV, no doubt, and likely cause a ratings spike.<\/p>\n Remember how the low-rated \u201cTonight Show\u201d got a huge boost<\/a> for inviting conservative comic Greg Gutfeld on its platform last year?<\/p>\n Inviting Vice President J.D. Vance on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d or even potential New York City Mayoral candidate Michael Rapaport on \u201cThe Late Show\u201d would be an even bigger ratings boost.<\/p>\n It would also take some FCC pressure off the shows in the court of public opinion. A more diverse guest lineup would defang the government body\u2019s key talking points.<\/p>\n Kimmel wouldn\u2019t \u201cneed\u201d us to save his professional hide. But don\u2019t hold your breath.<\/p>\n RELATED: KIMMEL JUST CROSSED A BIG RED LINE<\/a><\/p>\n Kimmel, Colbert, Seth Meyers and, to a lesser degree, Jon Stewart, would get their clocks cleaned by most GOP candidates. These comedians rely on false information, misdirection and Legacy Media bias to build their arguments.<\/p>\n They prefer ad hominem attacks and profanity over facts.<\/p>\n A sane, sober Republican would slice right through their arguments, and audiences would see these comics in a new, unflattering light.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know, Jimmy, Renee Good was interrupting a federal investigation, repeatedly refused to follow the agent\u2019s directions and aimed her car at him in her final, tragic moments.\u201d<\/p>\n Get it?<\/p>\n And that doesn\u2019t help the DNC messaging effort. At all. It also would make these late-night propagandists look like \u2026 late-night propagandists.<\/p>\n The FCC went too far last year<\/a> during KimmelGate.
