\n\tPhil Collins<\/a> has given fans another health<\/a> update as he continues to face a number of challenges, explaining that his issues are \u201can ongoing thing\u201d in an interview with BBC\u2019s Eras<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the conversation dropping Jan. 26, the drummer was candid about the level of treatment he requires on a daily basis to keep him going after a 2007 spinal injury left him with myriad health challenges. \u201cI have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication, as I should do,\u201d Collins said. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve had challenges with my knee,\u201d he continued. \u201cEverything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me \u2026 I can walk, albeit with assistance \u2014 crutches or whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe update comes about six months after Collins\u2019 rep confirmed that he was in the hospital for an operation on his knee, shutting down rumors at the time that the Genesis icon was in hospice. Collins has been battling medical challenges for nearly two decades now as a result of his spinal injury, which caused nerve damage and drop-foot. <\/p>\n

\n\tSince 2015, he\u2019s used a cane to walk and has had difficulty standing for long periods, much less getting behind the drumset. \u201cIt\u2019s still kind of sinking in,\u201d Collins said<\/a> in the December 2024 documentary Drummer First. \u201cI\u2019ve spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut in the interview with BBC, Collins \u2014 one of the most influential musical pioneers of the 1980s with seven No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a> \u2014 gave fans a flicker of hope. Noting that his recent knee surgeries and sobriety have him feeling \u201ctotally mobile and healthy,\u201d Collins said he\u2019s hoping to \u201chave a fiddle about\u201d in the studio soon to \u201csee if there\u2019s more music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cYou\u2019ve gotta start doing it to see if you can do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
