{"id":257802,"date":"2026-01-26T04:17:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T04:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/257802\/"},"modified":"2026-01-26T04:17:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T04:17:16","slug":"nhs-in-focus-funding-shortfalls-delay-hospital-discharges-say-care-homes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/257802\/","title":{"rendered":"NHS in focus: Funding shortfalls delay hospital discharges say care homes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Funding shortfalls delay discharges says care bosspublished at 17:57 GMT 22 January<\/p>\n<p>17:57 GMT 22 January<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A shortfall in government funding is preventing care homes<br \/>\nfrom taking on the number of patients needed to ease pressure on hospital beds,<br \/>\nthe co-owner of one home says. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Helen Thompson from Ochre Care, which runs<br \/>\ntwo private homes in North Yorkshire, said current funding levels did not match the<br \/>\ncosts of support needed for many residents coming out of hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Thompson said while her company &#8220;absolutely&#8221; had capacity, funding from government was &#8220;not appropriate to the level of<br \/>\nneed&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She said as a provider, the company received about<br \/>\n\u00a3994 a week for each council-funded resident, but the real cost of providing<br \/>\ncare was up to \u00a31,300 a week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;About 65% of our residents are not funded to the<br \/>\namount they need to be appropriate to their dependency, so with that, it&#8217;s the<br \/>\nprivately-funded residents that subsidise the gap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Department of Health and Social Care said it was tackling the situation with a promise to boost funding by about \u00a34.6bn by<br \/>\n2028-29.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cWe are also creating a National Care Service, based on<br \/>\nhigher quality of care, greater choice and control, and joined-up neighbourhood<br \/>\nservices,\u201d a spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Woman in a care home room.She has brown hair and is wearing a black top.
