Queer Eye has officially entered its Real Housewives era, and the latest tea involves a hot mic<\/a>, a mum on set, and some very off\u2011brand bitching from the allegedly Fab Five.\n<\/p>\n

By now, you\u2019ve probably seen that Karamo Brown skipped a bunch of press for Queer Eye\u2019s tenth and final season, leaving Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness and Jeremiah Brent to do the wholesome promo circuit without their culture expert. At the time, Karamo sent through statements saying he was \u201cmentally and emotionally abused\u201d and needed to \u201cprotect\u201d his peace, but didn\u2019t name names. Now, an insider has spilled on the behind\u2011the\u2011scenes moment that reportedly pushed him over the edge \u2014 and it\u2019s the stuff of social anxiety nightmares.<\/p>\n

According to TMZ<\/a>, the drama kicked off while the cast were filming season 10 in Washington, DC, when Karamo\u2019s mum Charmaine visited the set and was given production headphones so she could listen in. While Karamo briefly stepped away, Antoni, Tan and Jonathan were allegedly overheard talking negatively about him, including criticising \u201ccertain lifestyle choices\u201d and judging how he looked and dressed. A Daily Mail <\/a>source described the conversation as \u201cvery petty\u201d and claimed it then veered into complaints about what Karamo tells the show\u2019s heroes during their emotional makeover chats.<\/p>\n

Because Karamo is the resident life coach, the insider pointed out that hearing your so\u2011called friends pick apart your actual job is a different level of rough. \u201cSince he is the life coach, that\u2019s obviously not something that anyone wants to hear \u2014 that they aren\u2019t doing a good job,\u201d they said. \u201cIt\u2019s especially hard when it\u2019s coming from your so\u2011called friends.\u201d The source said those comments \u201ccreated an immediate rift\u201d and that Karamo has \u201cremained on the outs\u201d with Antoni, Tan and Jonathan ever since, even as Jeremiah has stayed on good terms with him.<\/p>\n

The insider also said Karamo had already had \u201cconcerns that his fellow cast members were talking behind his back\u201d, so when his mum \u201cheard them stirring up drama\u201d, those anxieties were confirmed. From there, things reportedly deteriorated quickly. \u201cIt turned very sour, very fast once Karamo figured out what they really felt for him,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n

That tension burst into the open when Karamo bailed on a planned CBS Mornings appearance an hour before airtime, with Gayle King reading out his statement live<\/a>. In it, he said, \u201cI hope everyone remembers the main theme I have tried to teach them over the past decade, which is to focus on and to protect their mental health\/peace from people or a world who seek to destroy it; which is why I can\u2019t be there today.\u201d Over on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, an email from his assistant said Karamo \u201chas felt mentally and emotionally abused for years\u201d and had been advised by his therapist \u201cto protect himself and his peace by not attending\u201d.<\/p>\n

Karamo also sent in a video to Today, telling viewers, \u201cJust like the themes of the season, I am modelling what I believe is most important, which I want to remind you all \u2026 love yourselves and protect yourselves. That\u2019s why I\u2019m here at home and not there.\u201d He encouraged fans to watch the final season and shouted out the crew, the fans and Netflix executives, but notably did not mention his co\u2011stars by name. Antoni later called the situation \u201ca surprise\u201d and said that, after nearly a decade together, their \u201cQueer Eye family\u201d is \u201ccomplicated\u201d like any other.<\/p>\n

Complicated indeed!<\/p>\n

It all comes after years of rumoured tension \u2014 from Bobby Berk\u2019s departure and reported clashes with Tan and Jonathan, to a Rolling Stone piece <\/a>alleging on\u2011set \u201crage issues\u201d and claims Tan and Antoni tried to get Bobby replaced with Tan\u2019s friend Jeremiah, which Tan has strongly denied. Netflix has now wrapped Queer Eye with its tenth and final season, and the Fab Five\u2019s story ends not with a group hug on a couch, but with one of its breakout stars quietly choosing distance over another glossy makeover.<\/p>\n
