\n\tJimmy Fallon<\/a> got a boost from New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> last night on The Tonight Show<\/a>. The recently-elected city leader made a surprise appearance during Fallon\u2019s monologue to offer a punchline about the blizzard that has swept through much of the country this week. <\/p>\n \n\tFallon explained that the storm shattered temperature records and covered the country in a foot of snow. \u201cIt is brutal out there,\u201d Fallon said. \u201cIt is so cold my belly button went from an outie to an innie. We got a foot of snow here in New York City and everything went from beautiful to brown mush in two seconds. Basically the entire city pulled an avocado.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAfter a few more similarly mediocre jokes from Fallon, Mamdani came on stage to wild cheers from the studio audience. \u201cJimmy, let me try one,\u201d Mamdani said, delivering this zinger: \u201cIt\u2019s so cold in New York City the rent froze itself.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tBefore departing he added, \u201cBut seriously, stay inside, stay warm, and stay safe.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tMamdani was sworn in<\/a> as New York City\u2019s new mayor on Jan. 1 after winning the election<\/a> in November. Lucy Dacus\u00a0performed an uplifting rendition of \u201cBread and Roses,\u201d an early-20th-century anthem of the labor and women\u2019s suffrage movements, at his inauguration. \u201cIt\u2019s such a beautiful sentiment,\u201d Dacus told Rolling Stone<\/a> of the choice. \u201cThe idea that you\u2019re not just fighting for your sustenance \u2014\u00a0you\u2019re fighting for your joy.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n \n\tDuring his campaign, Mamdani appeared on various late-night shows, but last night marked his debut on The Tonight Show. In October, he was interviewed by<\/a> Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. He also appeared on<\/a> The Late Show alongside city comptroller Brad Lander back in June to discuss their campaigns. <\/p>\n
