The future is inevitable, but Al Roker<\/a> is keeping his focus on “Today.”<\/p>\n

The weathercaster and longtime “Today” show<\/a> host reflected on his decadeslong television tenure and his 30th anniversary at “Today” in an interview with People magazine<\/a> published Tuesday, Jan. 27.<\/p>\n

“That’s the beauty of the broadcast is that the mission over these 74 years has not changed,” Roker, 71, told the outlet. “The way we bring it to you may have, and look, the fact of the matter is we are each temporary custodians of this legacy.”<\/p>\n

To celebrate Roker’s professional milestone, the “Today” show is hosting an “Al-iversary” special<\/a> that includes tributes from his costars, celebrity guest appearances and even a playful recreation of Roker’s signature style of glasses and fedora.<\/p>\n

The New York City native began his career with NBC in the late ’70s when he landed a gig at the Ohio affiliate WKYC. He was later promoted to a weathercaster position at the news network’s flagship New York station, WNBC-TV, in 1983.<\/p>\n

Roker’s weatherman stint laid the groundwork for his “Today” show debut. After serving as a fill-in anchor for Willard Scott<\/a> and Bryant Gumbel<\/a> from 1990 to 1995, Roker became the morning talk show’s regular weatherman in January 1996.<\/p>\n

The Emmy-winning news personality also cohosts the “3rd Hour” block of the “Today” show alongside Craig Melvin<\/a> and Dylan Dreyer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“At some point, I won’t be part of the show. Somebody else will be, but to be part of a pretty cool club is very special,” Roker continued. “To say that this was a dream job isn’t really accurate because it never dawned on me that I could be on the ‘Today’ show.”<\/p>\n

Aside from the weather, Roker has interviewed notable figures in entertainment during his time on the long-running talk show, including Don Rickles<\/a>, Betty White<\/a>, Carl Reiner<\/a> and Dick Van Dyke<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Even with the arrival of his 30th “Today” show anniversary, Roker said he hasn’t “thought about retirement\u201d yet, but he joked to People that for “somebody at NBC, that might be a different story.”<\/p>\n

“I love what I do,” Roker said. “I feel good. I love this job. I love doing it. At some point, I guess I won’t be, but I don’t feel like that’s anytime soon, so I’m just going to keep going.”<\/p>\n
