Swiss alpine skiing<\/a> star Lo\u00efc Meillard<\/a> saw nothing but green on Tuesday (27 January), authoring a memorable second run to leapfrog Brazil\u2019s Lucas Pinheiro Braathen<\/a> and claim his second giant slalom victory of the 2025\/26 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The two-time world champion held his nerve during a delayed second run, taking full advantage of the gate pattern set in his style to pull back the 0.06 seconds he\u2019d forfeited to Pinheiro Braathen in the first run.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His clean turns on the upper section of the course gave way to ragged, yet effective carves through the final few gates, giving him command of the leader\u2019s chair with only the Brazilian star left to ski.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With\u00a0Braathen bleeding time at each split, Meillard\u2019s chances of victory only grew in Schladming. The party-like atmosphere reached a crescendo as the Swiss star celebrated his victory in the finish area, with Braathen reigned to second at 0.73 seconds behind.<\/p>\n

The duo were joined on the podium by French rising star\u00a0Alban Elezi Cannaferina, who produced a sensational second run to jump from eighth to third \u2013 earning his first World Cup podium in 21 starts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just tried to push all the way,\u201d\u00a0Meillard told broadcasters. \u201cI had a few little mistakes a few times, but I was like, \u2018no, I\u2019ll just let go and don\u2019t think too much,\u201d and it paid off.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always been a slope that I liked,\u201d he added. \u201cI have good memories with the first victory in\u00a0GS, and to win again here, it\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meillard now sits third in the overall World Cup standings on\u00a0683 points, trailing teammate Marco Odermatt<\/a> (1,335 points) and Brazil\u2019s Pinheiro Braathen (748 points).
