World No. 2 Nelly Korda<\/a> didn\u2019t hold back in recent comments<\/a> about the evolving world of tech-focused golf leagues<\/a>, particularly when it comes to how TGL<\/a> and the newly announced Women\u2019s TGL are structured. In an interview with Golfweek, Korda described the decision to launch WTGL<\/a> as a separate, women-only league rather than integrating women into the existing TGL format as an \u201cunbelievable miss.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her remarks crystallize a debate gaining traction<\/a> among top women golfers: whether growing the sport requires shared, coed competitive platforms, or whether separate women\u2019s offerings can succeed on their own terms. Korda\u2019s perspective adds fuel to an already active conversation about golf\u2019s future beyond traditional tours.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike, I don\u2019t think that there\u2019s a downside,\u201d she said, \u201cI just think that it would have been even greater to have both of them together.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Missed Opportunity, According to Korda<\/p>\n

Korda was clear about what she feels has been overlooked. \u201cI have mixed feelings on it, if I\u2019m being very honest,\u201d she said regarding the split between TGL and the standalone new WTGL. What she finds striking is how rare it has been for women to publicly voice similar concerns, even though the current structure separates the men\u2019s and women\u2019s tech golf experiences. \u201cI think it\u2019s a huge and unbelievable miss that we\u2019re not playing alongside the men,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Her core point is simple: a coed golf league where women and men compete simultaneously, on the same platform, with the same stakes and purses, would be transformative. \u201cThere\u2019s no greater way to grow the game,\u201d she said,\u00a0\u201cand it would have been revolutionary. It would have been the first time, I think, that men and women are on the same playing field, playing for the same exact amount of money. But I also think it\u2019s great that we are getting this opportunity, so that\u2019s my mixed feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weighing the WTGL Opportunity<\/p>\n

While Korda has strong opinions about what TGL could have been, she hasn\u2019t definitively ruled out her involvement in WTGL\u2019s upcoming season<\/a>. Several other top women\u2013including Rose Zhang<\/a>, Lexi Thompson<\/a>, Charley Hull<\/a>, Lydia Ko<\/a>, Jeeno Thitikul<\/a>, and Lottie Woad<\/a>\u2013have already committed to the women\u2019s league.<\/p>\n

Korda made it clear she\u2019s still evaluating her options, and that part of her hesitation comes down to scheduling and logistics. \u201cI\u2019m just still weighing out the time commitment,\u201d she said, explaining that her focus has remained firmly on preparing for the 2026 LPGA season. She admitted that she hasn\u2019t given her WTGL decision \u201ctoo much thought yet,\u201d largely because she\u2019s been concentrating on her own competitive calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think logistically, they\u2019re still trying to figure some stuff out, so I will just weigh out my options in the near future,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

As with many new sports ventures, uncertainty remains around timing, broadcast reach, team formats, and how WTGL will fit into the broader women\u2019s golf ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Golf Formats Are Changing<\/p>\n

Korda\u2019s comments come at a moment when professional golf is both experimenting with formats intended to draw new audiences. TGL, launched by Tiger Woods<\/a> and Rory McIlroy<\/a> in 2022, uses simulator-based competition and team branding to appeal to younger viewers and tech-oriented fans. Its second season recently kicked off, featuring rapid-fire matchups and scripted days reminiscent of alternate-reality sports presentations.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s growing chatter on social media and among golf circles now that such coed competition could provide better pathways for sponsorship, fan engagement, and marketability. According to Golfweek, there has been some thought on a shared league somewhere in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that is something that\u2019s interesting to us and is interesting to the LPGA and is interesting to a lot of the players we\u2019re talking to,\u201d\u00a0Mike McCarley, TMRW Sports founder, said in early January, \u201cbut right now, we\u2019re really focused on building this out and providing, frankly, a nice stage and really nice platform to showcase the players and their personalities.\u201d<\/p>\n
