NEW YORK\u00a0\u2013 In a powerful global act of remembrance marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day, iconic buildings and landmarks in Israel and around the world were illuminated in yellow and with the hashtag #WeRemember, as part of the World Jewish Congress\u2019 flagship global campaign.<\/p>\n

Throughout the night, prominent sites served as beacons of memory and solidarity with Holocaust victims and survivors. Among the landmarks illuminated worldwide were Germany\u2019s Reichstag building and\u00a0Brandenburg Gate<\/a>. In Israel, sites included the\u00a0Azrieli Towers in Tel Aviv,<\/a>\u00a0the Knesset, Ben Gurion Airport\u2019s control tower<\/a>, Teddy Stadium, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem. Additional landmarks across Europe and beyond \u2014 including in the Czech Republic, Moldova, Greece, Brussels, Geneva<\/a>, and other cities \u2014 also participated in the global initiative.<\/p>\n

In Germany, hundreds of bus stops displayed powerful images of Holocaust survivors alongside prominent public figures, all holding signs bearing the hashtag #WeRemember, bringing the message of remembrance into everyday public spaces.<\/p>\n

Pre-match ceremonies were also held at Bundesliga matches across the country, where clubs displayed \u201cWe Remember\u201d banners in stadiums, reinforcing the importance of Holocaust remembrance through the unifying platform of sport.<\/p>\n

\u201c81 years ago, today, Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated,\u201d said\u00a0World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder. \u201cIn the decades since, the Jewish people have fought to protect the memory of the 6,000,000 victims of the Holocaust so that their stories, and those of survivors, will help guide future generations in building a more peaceful and secure world for all people.\u201c<\/p>\n

Today, we are grateful to know that we have committed allies in our fight. From Israel to Germany, and around the globe, #WeRemember.\u201d<\/p>\n

Launched nearly a decade ago, the #WeRemember campaign has grown into the world\u2019s largest digital initiative dedicated to Holocaust remembrance. Over the years, it has benefited from key partnerships with international institutions and leading technology platforms, including UNESCO, Meta, and TikTok.<\/p>\n

As part of these collaborations, Meta and TikTok have directed users seeking information about the Holocaust to aboutholocaust.org, a comprehensive educational resource developed jointly by the World Jewish Congress and UNESCO. Over the past year alone, the site reached more than four million users worldwide, including 3.5 million via TikTok, reflecting the growing demand for reliable, authoritative Holocaust education online.<\/p>\n

Through global landmarks, public spaces, sports arenas, and digital platforms, #WeRemember once again united millions of people across continents in honoring the memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and reaffirming the responsibility to confront antisemitism, hatred, and Holocaust distortion wherever they appear.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
