That day is almost here.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/bbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a> called time on the satirical panel series after 17 years \u201cin order to create room for new shows\u201d but Irish comedian Dara \u00d3 Briain will return for a brand new nine-episode edition in February, airing on TLC.<\/p>\n<p>Mock the Week\u2019s format sees six comedians answering questions about the past week\u2019s news, with the wittiest answers awarded points.<\/p>\n<p>New episodes will be double the length \u2013 increasing from 30 minutes to one hour \u2013 and will stay true to the classic format, with the return of rounds \u201cIf This Is the Answer, What Is the Question?\u201d and \u201cScenes We\u2019d Like to See\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, new segments will be introduced throughout the series, which will feature guests Katherine Ryan, Rhys James, Sara Pascoe and Mock the Week legends Hugh Dennis (who appeared in every episode of the original run), Russell Howard and Ed Byrne.<\/p>\n<p>Other stars on the panel will include Angela Barnes, Ahir Shah, Milton Jones, Sarah Keyworth, Lou Sanders, Glenn Moore and Ellie Taylor, with more set to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the show\u2019s return, \u00d3 Briain, who presented the panel show for its entire duration from 2005 until 2022, said he was \u201cgenuinely delighted to be back\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom what I remember, it\u2019s a show that thrives on silly jokes from smart people and any actual insight is purely accidental,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, from what I remember, my job was mainly just pressing a buzzer and handing out imaginary points. I can still do that. \u2018Here, have some imaginary points!\u2019 That\u2019s how easy it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00d3 Briain also told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/dara-o-briain-mock-the-week-revival-interview\/\">Radio Times<\/a> in a new interview he wasn\u2019t \u201cprecious\u201d about \u201cdamaging the legacy\u201d as \u201cit\u2019s just seven people in a room telling jokes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the show\u2019s cancellation in 2023, \u00d3 Briain joked that the decision stemmed from \u201cthe UK finally running out of news\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe storylines were getting crazier and crazier; global pandemics, divorce from Europe, novelty short-term prime ministers. It couldn\u2019t go on. We just couldn\u2019t be more silly than the news was already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-13-at-09-05-05.png\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\u2018Mock the Week\u2019 is returning \u2013 on TLC\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE\"\/>\u2018Mock the Week\u2019 is returning \u2013 on TLC (BBC)<\/p>\n<p>A BBC spokesperson said the corporation was \u201creally proud of the show\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, O\u2019Briain addressed being the butt of many jokes on the show, with the panellists often ridiculing his nationality, voice, weight and appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question about whether this was a form of bullying, \u00d3 Briain told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/life-style\/parenting\/article\/dara-o-briain-interview-parents-67hsnx5p0\">The Times<\/a>: \u201cNo. It really wasn\u2019t. If I were in a low-status position, it would be bullying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019m the one pressing the buzzer and handing out the points, and I have a kind of high-status mien about myself. So actually it\u2019s fine. It\u2019s grand. And a lot of it was from Ed Byrne, who is one of my closest friends.
