California Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s $236 million program to help those with severe mental illness who bounce between homelessness and jail has helped a measly 22 people since the its launch in 2022, a new report reveals.<\/p>\n

Newsom\u2019s CARE Court was billed as a \u201ccompletely new paradigm\u201d to get the mentally ill off the streets and into treatment, with up to 12,000 people expected to benefit, the Daily Mail reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But only 22 people have been sent to treatment over the past four years, after a state analysis found that up to 50,000 could be eligible for the program.<\/p>\n

The 22 court-ordered cases were among roughly 3,000 petitions filed statewide as of October. Of those, only 706 were approved, including 684 voluntary agreements that never intended the meet program\u2019s goal, according to the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n

Newsom has denied the report. <\/p>\n

\u201cCARE Court has helped THOUSANDS of Californians into care to recover \u2014 not 22. Even under the most NARROW definition (court-ordered treatment plans, which is one of many treatment outcomes), the number is 600+ and growing,\u201d his press team tweeted.<\/p>\n

Instead, a judge rejected her petition, leaving the family feeling \u201cdevastated\u201d and \u201ccompletely out of hope,\u201d she told the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n

Kevin Dalton, a former candidate for the LA County Board of Supervisors, slammed the program as a \u201cgigantic missed opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people who are supposed to be helping are in fact profiting from the situation,\u2019 Dalton told the Daily Mail. \u201cIt\u2019s like a diet company not really wanting you to lose weight.
