A new Lurie Children’s pediatric hospital is coming to the western suburbs. <\/p>\n
According to a press release, a Lurie Children’s is planning a “community-based pediatric hospital” in suburban Downers Grove. The proposed low-acuity hospital, officials said, will “be\u202fdesigned to meet the needs of a growing population of families in the region.”<\/p>\n
“This new facility\u00a0represents\u00a0a significant and needed investment in local health infrastructure and pediatric health,\u201d, Downers Grove Mayor Bob Barnett said in the release. New healthcare facilities are about more than expanding services \u2013 they are about being there and caring for our neighbors. We look forward to working with the team at Lurie Children\u2019s and welcoming them to the community.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u202fPlans for the hospital include a pediatric emergency department, surgery suites, inpatient beds and several pediatric subspecialties, such as oncology, cardiology,\u202fgastroenterology\u202fand orthopedics.<\/p>\n
The new facility would be Lurie Children\u2019s first inpatient hospital outside its main\u202flocation in\u202fStreeterville, Chicago.\u202f\u00a0According to the hospital, nearly half of children in the western suburbs must leave their area to receive inpatient pediatric care. <\/p>\n

The expansion also comes after Lurie Children’s opened a state-of-the-art outpatient center in Schaumburg in September of 2025. <\/p>\n
