Paul Dano<\/a> has finally responded to Quentin Tarantino\u2019s surprising comments on the actor being one of the \u201cweakest\u201d stars in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

During an appearance at the Sundance Film Festival for the 20th anniversary of his film Little Miss Sunshine, Dano was asked by Variety about Tarantino<\/a>\u2018s comments. Before he could answer, his co-star Toni Collette, who was also there, jumped in to defend Dano.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre we really going there? F\u2013k that guy! He must\u2019ve been high,\u201d said Collette. \u201cIt was just confusing. Who does that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Dano said it was nice of Collette to do that, and that he was also \u201cincredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn\u2019t have to.\u201d In the months since Tarantino\u2019s comments, several actors came to the defense of Dano<\/a> and criticized the legendary director\u2019s remarks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris also took to Dano\u2019s defense. Dayton called Tarantino\u2019s comments an \u201cembarrassment,\u201d while Faris noted that maybe Tarantino was made \u201cuncomfortable\u201d by Dano\u2019s \u201crawness\u201d in There Will Be Blood. \u201cYou know what was interesting was the people coming out to defend Paul. There was immediately\u2026 he is loved by so many. He is so smart,\u201d said Faris.<\/p>\n

Dano and the other\u2019s comments refer to some\u00a0less-than-kind things<\/a> Tarantino said about Dano while on The Bret Easton Ellis podcast in December. Specifically, Tarantino criticized Dano\u2019s appearance in 2007\u2019s There Will Be Blood. The director called Dano \u201cjust such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy,\u201d and cited Dano as the singular flaw in what many believe to be a masterpiece movie, and asked why Daniel Day-Lewis was paired with who Quentin believes is \u201cthe weakest male actor in SAG.\u201d <\/p>\n

Tarantino also name dropped both Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard as actors he didn\u2019t like. \u201cI don\u2019t care for [Paul Dano], I don\u2019t care for Owen Wilson, and I don\u2019t care for Matthew Lillard,\u201d Quentin said.<\/p>\n

While speaking at\u00a0GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio<\/a> last year, Lillard reacted to the comments<\/a>, noting that it \u201csucks\u201d to hear. \u201cQuentin Tarantino this week said he didn\u2019t like me as an actor,\u201d the Scream actor said, \u201cEh, whatever. Who gives a s***.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, the point is that hurts your feelings. It f***in\u2019 sucks,\u201d Lilard said about Tarantino\u2019s criticisms, \u201cAnd you wouldn\u2019t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn\u2019t say that to somebody who\u2019s a top-line actor in Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n
