Quentin Tarantino <\/a>was anything but a \u201cLittle Miss Sunshine\u201d when he decided to publicly shred<\/a> one of that movie\u2019s stars \u2014 Paul Dano<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In December, the \u201cOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood\u201d writer-director slammed Dano\u2019s talent, calling him \u201cthe weakest fucking actor in SAG\u201d amongst other pretty crude remarks.<\/p>\n

Dano has kept quiet about the brutal bashing, but ahead of a 20th anniversary cast reunion and screening of \u201cLittle Miss Sunshine\u201d at the Sundance Film Festival on Wednesday, Dano was asked about Tarantino\u2019s criticism and delivered a pretty great response, Variety reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was really nice,\u201d Dano told Variety. \u201cI was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dano\u2019s response comes in stark contrast to the trash Tarantino spat out.<\/p>\n

The \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d filmmaker was ranking what he considered the best movies of the 21st century on author Bret Easton Ellis\u2019s podcast<\/a> and gave Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s 2007 film, \u201cThere Will Be Blood,\u201d the No. 5 spot. <\/p>\n

The film stars Dano and Daniel Day-Lewis, the latter of whom won an Oscar for his role.<\/p>\n

Tarantino went on to say that Anderson\u2019s film would have ranked higher on his list \u201cif it didn\u2019t have a big, giant flaw in it … and the flaw is Paul Dano.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister. [Daniel Day-Lewis] is eating him [alive]. Austin Butler would have been wonderful in that role. [Dano\u2019s] just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy,\u201d Tarantino continued. \u201cDaniel Day-Lewis shows that he doesn\u2019t need a strong foil. The movie needs it. He doesn\u2019t need anything. It\u2019s supposed to be a two-hander and it\u2019s not! \u2026 you put him with the the weakest fucking actor in SAG? The limpest dick in the world?<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

Considering that Dano has been in several beloved and critically acclaimed films, ranging from \u201cRuby Sparks,\u201d \u201c12 Years a Slave\u201d and \u201cThe Batman,\u201d movie fans were pretty perplexed by Tarantino\u2019s ruthless remarks.<\/p>\n

I love Dano, but more to the point of QT’s take — why be publicly a dick about someone’s performance? Like, say you don’t like it, but he goes out of his way to be mean about it. Completely unnecessary… and I think this is manifest PTA jealousy coming from QT.<\/p>\n

Even some famous actors, like Toni Collette<\/a>, who co-starred with Dano in \u201cLittle Miss Sunshine\u201d and Ethan Hawke, who co-starred with him in a Broadway revival of Sam Shepard\u2019s \u201cTrue West\u201d in 2019, were compelled to stick up for him. <\/p>\n

\u201cPaul Dano\u2019s just going about his life. He\u2019s gotta wake up one morning and find out this director just went off on him and saying hateful things,\u201d Hawke said on the Joe Rogan podcast<\/a> in December. \u201cBut anyone who knows Quentin knows he talks, talks, talks, talks, talks. Anybody who knows Paul knows he\u2019s a great, world-class human being. And all this love for Paul is coming out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Collette was more direct. When Dano was asked by Variety about Tarantino\u2019s remarks at the \u201cLittle Miss Sunshine\u201d reunion, the \u201cHereditary\u201d star interjected with her own opinion before Dano could reply.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre we really going there?\u201d Colette told Variety. \u201cFuck that guy! He must\u2019ve been high\u2026 it was just confusing. Who does that?\u201d<\/p>\n
