{"id":267416,"date":"2026-01-31T17:16:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T17:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/267416\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T17:16:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T17:16:12","slug":"ontarians-uncertain-about-financial-future-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/267416\/","title":{"rendered":"Ontarians uncertain about financial future: poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">More Ontarians are questioning whether they\u2019ll ever achieve long-term financial security, even if they\u2019re coping today, a new national survey suggests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbc.com\/newsroom\/news\/article.html?article=126068\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.rbc.com\/newsroom\/news\/article.html?article=126068\">recent RBC Financial Flexibility Poll<\/a> finds Canadians are split almost evenly between optimism and financial stress, with Ontario reflecting and in some cases exceeding those pressures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">While 68 per cent Canadians say they are confident they can meet their needs right now, fewer than half \u2014 48 per cent \u2014 believe they will reach their long-term financial goals. The findings underscore a widening divide between short-term stability and long-term confidence, particularly in high-cost provinces like Ontario.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In Ontario, respondents were among the most likely in the country to point to housing and everyday spending habits as major barriers to achieving financial goals. 66 per cent cited housing as a key challenge. Meanwhile, 52 per cent pointed to personal financial habits setting them back, both among the top three regions nationally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">RBC says the gap highlights how uneven financial pressures have become in recent years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cFinancial pressures and uncertainty of the past year have challenged Canadians to reassess their financial security,\u201d said Erica Nielsen, Group Head, RBC Personal Banking. \u201cThe impact hasn\u2019t been the same for everyone, which is evident in the contrasts in how people are feeling about their finances today and their outlook for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A broader look at financial confidence <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Among Canadians who feel financially confident, the poll found more proactive behaviours. THE CANADIAN PRESS\/Sean Kilpatrick (Sean Kilpatrick) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to the RBC survey, 66 per cent of Ontarians say their biggest financial goal for 2026 is to \u201cenjoy retirement the way they want\u201d \u2014 the highest regional response in the country, ahead of Alberta (65 per cent) and British Columbia (63 per cent).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Among other financial goals, 52 per cent of Ontarians say their biggest goal for the year is to have a \u201cfinancial cushion for unexpected expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At the same time, new polling from Mental Health Research Canada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/london\/article\/bell-lets-talk-day-highlights-growing-mental-health-pressures-for-canadians\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/london\/article\/bell-lets-talk-day-highlights-growing-mental-health-pressures-for-canadians\/\">shows 36 per cent<\/a> of Canadians say the possibility of not being able to pay their bills is negatively affecting their mental health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">RBC notes that financial stress can feel particularly acute after the holiday season, when unplanned expenses often pile up.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/AFRZB4UOSFT2OOB7I66AXYLSAA.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Money Stress <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe start of a new year offers an opportunity to rethink and reset financial priorities,\u201d Nielsen said. \u201cThis is where financial advice professionals can help you create or update your budget and financial plan and explore where you can find financial flexibility in the year ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">METHODOLOGY:<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The RBC survey was conducted between Sept. 26 and 29, 2025, among 1,500 Canadians through the Angus Reid Forum.
