DURHAM, N.C. \u2013 James Madison secured the doubles point but couldn’t hold on to its lead, dropping a 6-1 decision to Kentucky.

\nIn the inaugural meeting between the programs, the Wildcats (3-1) rallied for the win after taking wins on all six singles courts, with four in straight sets. That came after the Dukes (1-3) clinched the doubles point with victories on courts one and three.

\nTo open the match, the tandem of Brooklyn Hoffmann<\/a> and Sophie Williams<\/a> rolled to a 6-2 win on court one against Marina Fuduric and Julia Zhu. The Dukes secured the early 1-0 lead with a 6-4 triumph on court three, as Daria Munteanu<\/a> and Ariel Avidan<\/a> defeated Zoe Hammond and Ellie Myers.

\nElsewhere, the court-two matchup between Mia Saveljic<\/a> and Reka Matko<\/a> and UK’s Reese Sager and Asuncion Jadue went unfinished while tied at 5-5.

\nIn singles play, Kentucky tied the bout with a win on court six, as Myers took down Anna Kantor<\/a>, 6-1, 6-3. UK grabbed the lead on court two, as Zhu registered a 6-1, 6-3 win against Saveljic.

\nThe lead stretched to 3-1 for the Wildcats on court five, as Sager fended off Avidan by scores of 6-4, 6-4. The match was clinched on court one, with Hammond dispatching Munteanu at 6-4, 6-3.

\nThe final two matches on courts three and four would go to third-set super tiebreakers, and UK won both. Jadue first beat Hoffmann by scores of 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6), while Elena Molla rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) victory against Williams.

\nJMU is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 1 when it faces seventh-ranked Duke in Durham.
