The Harry Potter TV series<\/a> has officially had its release window confirmed by HBO boss Casey Bloys.<\/p>\n

The upcoming series, which see youngster Dominic McLaughlin<\/a> take over the role of the boy wizard, will hit screens in “early 2027,” Bloys has confirmed.<\/p>\n

During a recent interview with Deadline<\/a>, Bloys decided to “narrow down” the window, saying: \u201cWe\u2019ve been saying 2027. I would say, to narrow it down to some extent, early 2027. And now you\u2019re going to ask, does that mean January, February, March, April, that we\u2019re not ready to say. I\u2019ll say early 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n

News has gradually been emerging about the new adaptation of JK Rowling’s novels, with it recently being confirmed that Hans Zimmer<\/a> and his collective of composers, named Bleeding Fingers, are tapped to compose the score for the series.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, much like the original films, a whole host of British acting royalty will be bringing the characters to life. Newcomers Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will play will play Hermione and Ron, while John Lithgow<\/a> is set to play Albus Dumbledore.<\/p>\n

We’ll also see Nick Frost take on the role of half-giant Rubeus Hagrid, with Paapa Essiedu as Snape<\/a> and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall.<\/p>\n

One role that’s still a little up in the air is that of dark wizard Voldemort – although it’s been widely rumoured that Cillian Murphy has been cast, with original Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes recently adding fuel to the fire.<\/a><\/p>\n

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has faced backlash in some quarters due to her views on transgender rights. In 2020, she published a lengthy statement detailing her stance on sex and gender debates \u2013 the essay was criticised and disputed by LGBTQ+ charities including Stonewall.<\/p>\n

Rowling has also shared her views on social media, including in a 2024 post on X (formerly Twitter), in which she insisted that \u201cthere are no trans kids\u201d and opposed the idea that a child can be \u201cborn in the wrong body\u201d.<\/p>\n

In May 2025, Rowling set up the JK Rowling Women\u2019s Fund, which describes itself as offering legal funding support to \u201cindividuals and organisations fighting to retain women\u2019s sex-based rights\u201d.<\/p>\n

Harry Potter actors including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, have distanced themselves from Rowling’s views and have issued statements supporting the transgender community. Others, including Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and Jim Broadbent, have defended the author from the criticism she has received.<\/p>\n

The Harry Potter TV series will premiere in early 2027 on HBO Max.<\/p>\n
