The Witcher<\/a>\u2019s final season will be released on Netflix later in 2026, after a major backlash to the show\u2019s fourth season. Regardless of the negative press the show has received of late, it\u2019s still the biggest fantasy franchise on the world\u2019s most watched streaming platform. Season 5 represents an opportunity for The Witcher to redeem itself by sticking the landing.<\/p>\n

To get its ending right, though, the series has to nail one key moment involving the three most important characters in its story. One of the main reasons why The Witcher season 4 received such bad reviews<\/a> was the decision to keep Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg entirely apart from their adoptive daughter, Ciri.<\/p>\n

This decision wasn\u2019t really a surprise, given how much Netflix\u2019s The Witcher has changed Ciri from the book<\/a> character she\u2019s based on. Yet, even Geralt and Yennefer only briefly crossed paths in season 4. By contrast, The Witcher season 5 can save the legacy of the whole series by bringing the three characters together in a satisfying conclusion.<\/p>\n

In this way, The Witcher\u2019s ending can fix the biggest complaint<\/a> about the show\u2019s character, besides, of course, the controversial replacement of Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt. The titular hero, his love interest and their daughter have spent far too much time talking about one another, and barely any time together.<\/p>\n

Season 5 will be the fourth season in succession the three protagonists spend mostly apart, meaning that an awful lot rests on the moment they finally reunite for good. So many great fantasy franchises have been dashed on the rocks by a painfully disappointing ending.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, The Witcher can transform negative perceptions of recent seasons and secure a very different legacy for itself by getting the reunion of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri right. If the moment serves as a triumphant climax to the series, it will go some way to winning back the legions of fans who lost faith after season 3.<\/p>\n

This Season 5 Reunion Could Save The Witcher\u2019s Legacy On Netflix<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, The Witcher has got so many things wrong<\/a> over the past three years that season 5 has quite a hole to dig the show out of. Nevertheless, because the long-term separation of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri from one another is such a major complaint, bringing them back together properly will go a long way to fixing previous mistakes.<\/p>\n

At the very least, the reunion will redeem The Witcher\u2019s legacy as Netflix\u2019s flagship fantasy series. It might not completely undo what\u2019s already gone awry, but it can still be the accomplishment everyone remembers the show by.<\/p>\n

Why The Witcher Has Kept Geralt, Yennefer & Ciri Apart Until Now<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that The Witcher\u2019s separation of Ciri<\/a> from her adoptive parents isn\u2019t universally regarded as a bad decision. Although the timeline of events is different in Andrzej Sapkowski\u2019s original novel series, the idea of keeping the three protagonists apart did originate in the books.<\/p>\n

For some fans, Ciri\u2019s individual journey allows her to step out of Geralt\u2019s shadow and develop more as a character. Netflix\u2019s The Witcher has arguably made more of Freya Allan\u2019s role than Sapkowski ever did, by bringing a dark side of her personality to the fore.<\/p>\n

Still, it\u2019s hard to argue that the series wouldn\u2019t have been better served by having its three central figures interact onscreen for more than two brief meetings across four seasons of television. The Witcher needs a proper reunion between Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri in season 5. Otherwise it\u2019s destined to be remembered by fans as a failed adaptation.<\/p>\n
