Earlier this month, a journeyman named Grant was working on powerlines in Victoria, Australia, when he noticed a small, fuzzy lump sitting alone in the middle of a nearby field.<\/p>\n

Getting a closer look, Grant realized the lump was actually an orphaned baby kangaroo. The tradesman couldn\u2019t believe his eyes. He conferred with the property owner, who told him the baby had been there all day.<\/p>\n

In need of expert help, Grant contacted Central Goldfields Wildlife Rescue<\/a>. He marked the area with an arrow and some twine so that rescuers knew exactly where to look.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was in the right place, at the right time!\u201d India Armstrong of Central Goldfields Wildlife Rescue told The Dodo. \u201cHe was very concerned about the little joey, especially if he was left by himself overnight, as there are a lot of foxes in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

At first, the terrified \u2018roo, later named Weird Al, ran from his saviors. He darted through the grass, forcing the rescue team to loop around the field as they attempted to get close to the baby without chasing him and scaring him off.<\/p>\n

Finally, they managed to contain him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe stopped just long enough for me to scoop him up gently,\u201d one team member wrote in a Facebook post about the rescue<\/a>. \u201cHe was drenched from standing in the wet field all day \u2014 cold, scared, but safe now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Back at the rescue, Weird Al drank kangaroo formula and began to relax. The baby is still at the shelter, where he\u2019ll remain for a while longer, eventually transitioning into a pre-release area. During this time, rescuers will limit human interaction, preparing the joey for his eventual return to the wild.<\/p>\n

Now Weird Al doesn\u2019t have to make it on his own. He has a whole team behind him, ensuring his bright future.<\/p>\n
