Cher may have wanted to turn back time on her rather chaotic Grammys presenting experience.<\/a> But the pop legend\u2019s obvious good humor made her series of flubs one of the most enjoyably meme-worthy moments of the night.<\/p>\n

In what amounted to a Grammys version of John Travolta\u2019s Adele Dazeem moment at the Oscars \u2014 if much more understandable \u2014 Cher, presenting record of the year at Sunday’s show<\/a>, seemed to momentarily award it to the late Luther Vandross.<\/p>\n

Quickly, though, she realized amid applause that the actual winner was the very-much-alive Kendrick Lamar, who rose to accept the prize for \u201cLuther,\u201d his duet with SZA. \u201cLuther Vandross \u2013 no, Kendrick Lamar!\u201d Cher said, smiling broadly at her own gaffe.<\/p>\n

It had its logic, though, because that duet samples Vandross \u2013 and one of the song\u2019s producers, Sounwave, began his acceptance speech by saying, \u201cLet\u2019s give a shoutout to the late and great Luther Vandross.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t the only chaotic moment of Cher\u2019s appearance. She’d arrived onstage to present record of the year, but first accepted her lifetime achievement award<\/a> handed to her by host Trevor Noah \u2014 a prize she’d skipped accepting in person at a ceremony the night before. Then, after an upbeat speech focused on overcoming decades of career setbacks, she simply started walking offstage. \u201cI guess I’m supposed to walk off now,\u201d she said, to friendly applause.<\/p>\n

Noah called her back, saying: \u201cCher, before you go could we get you to announce the nominees?\u201d He could do it, he quipped, but she’d be better. <\/p>\n

Cher obliged, also with a smile.<\/p>\n

When it came time to announce the winner, she first looked around, quizzically. \u201cOh! They told me it was going to be on a prompter,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

Noah summed it all up with a positive spin.<\/p>\n
