Futures linked to the S&P 500 traded rose Monday night after U.S. equities posted a strong start to the new trading month.<\/p>\n
S&P 500 futures<\/a> added 0.2%, while Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a> gained nearly 0.4%. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> advanced 11 points, or less than 0.1%.<\/p>\n Shares of Palantir Technologies<\/a> jumped about 6% in extended trading after the defense tech company gave strong fourth-quarter financial results<\/a> and upbeat guidance. Robotics play Teradyne<\/a> surged 20% after posting a solid outlook for the first quarter, calling for revenue that surpassed expectations.<\/p>\n Major stock averages rose across the board in the regular session. The 30-stock\u00a0Dow<\/a>\u00a0jumped about 515 points, or 1.05%. The\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0advanced 0.5%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0gained almost 0.6%. Hot artificial intelligence infrastructure stocks Sandisk<\/a>, Western Digital<\/a> and Seagate<\/a> all ended the session higher. However, Nvidia<\/a> fell nearly 3% after The Wall Street Journal reported<\/a> late last week that the chip company’s plans to invest in OpenAI have stalled.<\/p>\n In cryptocurrencies, bitcoin dropped to its lowest level<\/a> since April, signaling investors’ decreasing appetite for risk. Futures tied to silver<\/a> and gold<\/a> also settled lower on Monday. The metals sold off hard on Friday.<\/p>\n Investors this week are digesting more than 100 S&P 500 companies reporting earnings results. Advanced Micro Devices<\/a> and Pfizer<\/a> are among those expected to post results on Tuesday. “Magnificent Seven” giants Amazon<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Alphabet<\/a> are slated to report later this week.
