J.K. Rowling remains a controversial figure for her bigoted views in the larger background of the upcoming Harry Potter<\/a> TV show remake. One of the stars of the show recently spoke on her involvement with it.<\/p>\n

What actor spoke about J.K. Rowling\u2019s involvement in the show?<\/p>\n

Speaking during a recent appearance at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (via THR<\/a>), John Lithgow \u2014 who plays Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming series \u2014 was asked about navigating being in the show versus dealing with Rowling\u2019s bigoted public statements towards trans people.<\/p>\n

Lithgow said he finds it \u201cironic and somewhat inexplicable\u201d that Rowling can hold such views despite making a series that focuses so largely on acceptance and love.<\/p>\n

\u201cI take the subject and the issue extremely seriously. J.K. Rowling has created this amazing canon for young people, young kids\u2019 literature that has jumped into the consciousness of society,\u201d Lithgow said. \u201cYoung and old people love Harry Potter and the Harry Potter stories. It\u2019s so much about acceptance. It\u2019s about good versus evil. It\u2019s about kindness versus cruelty. It\u2019s deeply felt.<\/p>\n

\u201cI find it ironic and somewhat inexplicable that Rowling has expressed such views,\u201d Lithgow continued, before noting that Rowling is \u201cnot really involved\u201d with the show in any capacity. \u201cI\u2019ve read about them, and I\u2019ve never met her. She\u2019s not really involved in this production at all. The people who are re-adapting\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0and turning it into an eight-year-long TV series are remarkable. \u2026 These are people I really want to work with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite Rowling\u2019s lack of involvement with the show, many fans online are hesitant to support the show given the success it will inevitably give to Rowling. The HBO adaptation is being written by Emmy-winning producer\u00a0Francesca Gardiner\u00a0(Killing Eve, Succession). The series is executive produced by Gardiner, Mark Mylod, Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and long-time Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman.<\/p>\n

Alongside Lithgow, the upcoming series will be led by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. Alongside the trio, the Harry Potter TV show also stars,\u00a0Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall<\/a>,\u00a0Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape<\/a>,\u00a0Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid<\/a>, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, and Bertie Carvel as the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"J.K.
