A Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer is already one of the most desirable automotive creations that you can buy. Now, thanks to a recently announced collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, they’re about to get even better\u2014at least, if you want one that lets you feel the wind in your hair when you drive.<\/p>\n

Most Singer projects begin with a Porsche 964<\/a>\u2014the generation of 911 built between 1989 and 1994\u2014as the base. In 2022, Singer began to offer vehicles in their \u2018Classic Turbo\u2019 series, and the 964 donor car is not always a coupe; in some cases, the client wants a Targa or a Convertible to be, as the company describes its work, reimagined. However, the torsional stiffness of those older Targas and Convertibles is not up to modern standards. That’s where Red Bull Advanced Technologies<\/a> comes in. <\/p>\n

Singer asked Red Bull’s high-performance vehicle engineering division, with which the California-based company had previously joined forces to create the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer,<\/a> to perform a structural analysis of the 964 chassis. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software was used to calculate the torsional stiffness of the different variants of the car, both with and without roof; the FEA model was used to assess where the rigidity could be improved. The result was the development of 13 carbon fiber structures designed to increase the rigidity of the open-top 964 chassis. <\/p>\n

The carbon fiber structures were bonded to the 964 monocoque and tested, and the result was an increase in torsional rigidity\u2014of a whopping 175 percent. As a result, the companies say the Targas and Convertibles now have performance and driving characteristics that match the coupe. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe challenge from Singer was to increase the stiffness of the open-roof Type 964, giving it the same dynamic performance as the coupe whilst minimizing additional weight. The careful balancing of performance against weight is extremely familiar to us,\u201d said Rob Gray, technical director of Red Bull Advanced Technologies, “and we\u2019re delighted to have been able to support Singer and their clients with this solution.”<\/p>\n

So there you have it: just when you think that a Singer couldn\u2019t be any better, the company manages to make their creations even more desirable … if, sadly, not any more affordable. <\/p>\n
