Mattel<\/a>\u2019s new movie is the studio\u2019s most bizarre pitch yet.<\/p>\n

Mattel Studios<\/a> was behind 2023\u2019s Barbie, which was directed by Greta Gerwig and released through Warner Bros. Pictures. That movie was a major hit, as it grossed approximately $1.448 billion globally and received many accolades. The studio has also partnered with Amazon MGM Studios for Masters of the Universe, which arrives in theaters this summer.<\/p>\n

A number of other Mattel Studios projects are in development, including a Monster High movie, a Matchbox film starring John Cena that is expected to be released in 2026, and more.<\/p>\n

What is Mattel\u2019s new movie?<\/p>\n

Per Deadline<\/a>, it has now been announced that Mattel Studios is making a Tony the Tattooed Man<\/a> feature film. Tracie Laymon<\/a>, known for helming 2024\u2019s Bob Trevino Likes It<\/a>, has been tapped to write and direct the movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst introduced in 1992, Tony the Tattooed Man was an illustratable muscle-bound action figure, inviting kids to decorate his body with soluble temporary tattoos applied by hand and to continually customize and reimagine his appearance,\u201d the article reads. \u201cGiven its short time on the market, the novelty toy has added value now as a rare vintage collectible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Laymon said in a statement, \u201cI was immediately drawn to Tony the Tattooed Man from the minute I saw his name and then learned about his short-lived journey as a discontinued toy. His story is a reminder of the healing power of second chances and not judging a book \u2013 or a person \u2013 by their cover, a message I believe the world needs right now. It is an honor to partner with Mattel, who are true allies for artists, on a film that will help restore our faith in humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n
