Jewish extremist violence<\/a> against West Bank Palestinians substantially harms Israeli national security, IDF Civil Administration Commander Maj. Gen. Ghassan Alian<\/a> said in his outgoing speech on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Alian said that even if the number of extremist, violent Jews is small, it has caused outsized damage to Israel’s image globally, which also directly endangers the country by destabilizing the region.<\/p>\n

The IDF Civil Administration commander for the West Bank<\/a> and Gaza said that Israel must act more aggressively to reduce and eliminate this trend of violence against West Bank Palestinians.<\/p>\n

He said that the violence also harms the reputation of Jewish settlers, who he said are overwhelmingly peaceful and have contributed to Israel and its future.<\/p>\n

Regarding his role supervising all humanitarian aid issues in Gaza, Alian said that his and his soldiers’ efforts held back what could have been even worse delegitimization efforts.<\/p>\n

In summer 2025, when the world accused Israel of starvation in Gaza,<\/a> Alian led the increase of humanitarian aid to address food insecurity where it was real, while debunking aspects of the accusations.<\/p>\n

Under Alian, for the entire war, 112,000 aid trucks have been brought into Gaza, including 1,700,000 tons of food.<\/p>\n

1,800,000 tents and tarpaulin covers have been brought into Gaza.<\/p>\n

600,000 children received polio vaccinations.<\/p>\n

Currently, 16 field hospitals are operating, and over the course of the war, 9,600 tons of medical items have been brought to Gaza.<\/p>\n

42,000 Gazans have exited to a third country to receive health treatment or use their dual citizenship status.<\/p>\n

5,000 international aid workers have entered Gaza during the war.<\/p>\n

COGAT has also provided 1,300 food pallets to southern Syrian communities, mostly to Druze Syrians, during the war.<\/p>\n

Alian steps down after nearly five years at his post, a long extension of the standard term.<\/p>\n

Yoram Halevi, a top former police official, will replace him.<\/p>\n

Critics have said that Halevi is an outside political appointee designed to reduce professional expert disagreements with the government’s West Bank and Gaza policy.<\/p>\n
