While speaking with The Direct<\/a> to promote his latest film, The Rip<\/a>, Joe Carnahan shared some plot details about The A-Team\u2019s unmade sequel, The A-Team 2. <\/p>\n The Smokin\u2019 Aces filmmaker said that he had the \u201cbest opening\u201d for the film. He shared that the film opened with Liam Neeson\u2019s John \u201cHannibal\u201d Smith \u201crunning sled dogs in the Sahara Desert,\u201d and reaching the Citadel to rescue Bradley Cooper\u2019s Templeton \u201cFace\u201d Peck, who is being held hostage.<\/p>\n The director continued, \u201cAnd he has to get in there. And he\u2019s gonna play blackjack against The Shape, and he\u2019s brought a Lamborghini.\u201d He further stated, \u201cHe\u2019s brought all these wares to trade for Face, but they\u2019re gonna play cards. That was the opening of the sequel.\u201d<\/p>\n Carnahan on why The A-Team flopped at the box office<\/p>\n Carnahan attributed The A-Team\u2019s box office flop to \u201cmarketing,\u201d adding that they released on the same day as the World Cup. \u201cIt was a bad date,\u201d he further stated. \u201cKarate Kid absolutely kicked the s\u2013t out of us.\u201d Notably, The A-Team reportedly grossed<\/a> $177.2 million at the box office, while The Karate Kid grossed<\/a> $359.1 million at the box office.<\/p>\n The director also brought up the film\u2019s positive reception, lamenting that he couldn\u2019t make a sequel. \u201cIt\u2019s a shame, because that movie has become very beloved,\u201d he shared. \u201cI always get people saying, \u2018Man, I love that film.\u2019 And, you know, it\u2019s got Alan Silvestri pre-Avengers with that score.
