Crowds suck. The awful thing is that everyone complaining about crowds is part of the crowd they\u2019re complaining about. Sure, it\u2019s nice to remember those long-gone days where crowds weren\u2019t much of an issue, but there aren\u2019t too many great waves that aren\u2019t crowded these days. Snapper Rocks might be the best example<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The wave, of course, is about as good as a wave gets. But it\u2019s in Australia, a place where surfers are plentiful. Snapper is the start of the Superbank that, when the stars align, can stretch through Kirra. It is one of the most consistent waves in Queensland and it is, on its day, one of the best waves on the planet\u2026 if you can get a wave.<\/p>\n

A long time ago, I was surfing First Point Malibu. It was crowded, even by Malibu standards, and I was visibly frustrated after being burned for the millionth time. \u201cIf you\u2019re not behind someone,\u201d a friend in the lineup laughed, \u201cyou\u2019re in front of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Which is terrible, but in this day and age where the best waves are often the most crowded, if you want to surf, you might need to be a little looser with your etiquette.
