Israeli authorities cut off water and electricity to the headquarters of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Israel\u2019s Energy Minister, Eli Cohen, said on Wednesday evening that he personally oversaw the move. In a post on X, he wrote: \u201cIn words and in actions, I shut off the tap on UNRWA.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cohen said he arrived at the UNRWA headquarters on Wednesday morning and found that the electricity had already been cut. He added that he also ordered the water supply to be shut off.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cThere is no place for UNRWA in the State of Israel,\u201d claiming that the agency had been \u201can executive arm of Hamas\u201d.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Wednesday, Cohen told Israeli radio that he would personally supervise the cutting of water and electricity to UNRWA premises in East Jerusalem. Speaking to local station 103 FM, he said: \u201cI am now on my way to East Jerusalem to see for myself the cutting of water and electricity to its offices.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Palestinian people are facing severe humanitarian conditions due to the impact of what Palestinians describe as a two-year Israeli war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, in addition to ongoing Israeli military operations in the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n
