Whitechapel, the ITV police procedural that first aired in 2009, has been available for fans to stream on Netflix \u2013 but that’s going to change soon, as it’s set to leave the platform at the end of February. The show has four seasons, each with between three and six episodes, so there’s still time to binge your way through if you’re a fan of detective dramas. <\/p>\n

It boasts an impressive and recognisable cast of British actors, including Rupert Penry-Jones (Spooks), Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9) and Hannah Walters (Adolescence). Fans on IMDb<\/a> have been quick to praise the performances of Whitechapel’s cast, with one calling them a “great ensemble”. <\/p>\n

Another commented on the “outstanding acting” in the show, while someone else said that the “grand cast of top-notch actors” paired with “brilliant writing” and “perfect period sets” meant that “so much about this series delivers”.<\/p>\n

The description for Whitechapel’s first season (via Netflix) reads: “When a modern-day killer mimics the murders of Jack the Ripper, a team of detectives and a tour guide join forces to bring the copycat to justice.”<\/p>\n

When it first debuted on ITV, it drew over 8 million viewers<\/a> and ITV1 came out on top in primetime overall, with an average share of 28.9%.<\/p>\n

Fans on IMDb<\/a> have branded Whitechapel a “must-watch”, with one viewer saying that the “mystery and dark history in it make the series quite unique to other detective series”. “Very good can be very dark and gritty but is edge of the seat series,” another added. <\/p>\n

Phil Davis, one of the lead actors \u2013 who played Detective Sergeant Miles, one of the central police investigators, in the drama \u2013 previously described Whitechapel as “a very dark murder mystery miniseries in the tradition of Prime Suspect”.<\/p>\n

During a 2009 interview<\/a> with Digital Spy, Davis said of his character: “He’s an honest cop, a good one, but not an easy man to work with. He gets landed with a fast-track Detective Inspector called Chandler, played by Rupert Penry-Jones, who comes from Knightsbridge down to the East End and starts issuing instructions.<\/p>\n

“Chandler doesn’t know the ground, although he turns out to be right about quite a lot of things. There’s a good deal of abrasion between the two characters.”<\/p>\n

Whitechapel is set to leave Netflix on 26 February, so if you want to get stuck in to the crime drama you still have some time…<\/p>\n
