Adam Sandler tells PEOPLE that a viral TikTok that claimed he purchased $312,000 worth of Chanel bags after an employee “publicly humiliated” his daughter Sadie is “100% insane and made-up”<\/p>\n

The video in question appears to falsify the actor and comedian’s voice<\/p>\n

Sandler, who received an award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Feb. 5, shares daughters Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 17, with wife Jackie<\/p>\n

The Jay Kelly actor spoke to PEOPLE on the red carpet at a Santa Barbara International Film Festival event honoring Sandler, 59, and his career Thursday, Feb. 5.<\/p>\n

At the end of the chat, Sandler addressed a viral TikTok video<\/a> that purports to show him claiming Sadie, 19, was “publicly humiliated” by a Chanel store employee, calling the story\u00a0fake.<\/p>\n

“By the way, there’s something on the internet talking about that dumb thing,” Sandler says. “I’ve been hearing about this thing and I saw it, and it’s just insane. It’s just this made-up, weird thing that people ask me about. And I’m just like, ‘I’ve never heard of this in my life.’ That story was 100 percent insane and made-up, and not a word of it is true.”<\/p>\n

“But there’s also some story I heard about me going to an In-N-Out Burger at midnight and getting a bunch of Double-Doubles, and I have to say, that story is true,” he adds. “So that one’s true. The other one’s pathetic.”<\/p>\n

The viral TikTok in question was posted Tuesday, Feb. 2. The video appears to falsify Adam’s voice to create a story claiming a retail store employee in Beverly Hills, Calif. told Sadie she “wasn’t allowed to touch” certain items in the store and that Adam, in response, bought $312,000 worth of bags from the store to teach the employee a lesson.<\/p>\n

Adam, who shares daughters<\/a> Sadie and Sunny, 17, with wife Jackie, made a point of telling multiple news outlets at the Santa Barbara Film Festival event that the story is “one of the weirdest, dumbest, 100-percent made-up things.”<\/p>\n

He told USA Today<\/a> on the red carpet that a friend of his texted him to ask about the story, which he described as “nonsense.” “I don’t know how that [expletive] happens,” Adam added.<\/p>\n

Adam received the film festival’s Maltin Modern Master Award<\/a> on Feb. 5, which organizers say is meant to “honor an individual who has enriched our culture through accomplishments in the motion picture industry.”<\/p>\n

He shouted out Jackie, whom he married in 2003, as “the love of my life” during his acceptance speech. “Thank you for keeping me going all these years. I love you forever. I couldn’t do it without you,” he said, adding, “To my daughters, Sadie and Sunny, you guys are my world. I love you two like you’ll never know.”<\/p>\n
