Day 2 of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026<\/a>\u00a0had it all. Drama, intrigue, heartbreak and eight newly-minted Olympic champions!\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first medal event got off to a harrowing start when Team USA three-time Olympic medallist\u00a0Lindsey Vonn<\/a>\u00a0crashed out of the women\u2019s Alpine skiing downhill before she was airlifted off course.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vonn\u2019s teammate\u00a0Breezy Johnson<\/a>\u00a0brought the downhill to a climactic end,\u00a0adding Olympic gold<\/a> to her World Championship crown with a winning time of 1:36.10. She pipped Germany\u2019s\u00a0Emma Aicher<\/a>\u00a0to the top by just 0.04 seconds. Home favourite\u00a0Sofia Goggia<\/a> secured the bronze in 1:36.69.<\/p>\n

Figure skating: The U.S. clinches second straight team event gold<\/p>\n

U.S.\u00a0figure skating<\/a>\u00a0star\u00a0Ilia Malinin<\/a>\u00a0delivered the goods in his free skate, landing five quadruple jumps for a score of 200.03 points, breaking the overall team tie with Japan.<\/p>\n

Japan had to be content with a back-to-back silver medal behind the U.S. team, with Italy finishing third.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0U.S. is the first team to repeat as champions in the team event, which debuted in Sochi 2014.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cross-country skiing: Johannes\u00a0Hoesflot Klaebo wins sixth career gold<\/p>\n

Norway\u2019s\u00a0cross-country skiing<\/a>\u00a0G.O.A.T won a career sixth gold medal at the Olympics with his win in the\u00a0men\u2019s 10km + 10km skiathlon<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Johannes\u00a0Hoesflot Klaebo is now just four golds away from becoming the most decorated Olympic\u00a0skier of all time.<\/p>\n

The eight-time Olympic medallist was in fine fettle, taking a commanding win in 46:11.0, with Frenchman\u00a0Mathis Desloges<\/a>\u00a0finishing second and Norwegian compatriot\u00a0Martin\u00a0L\u00f8wstr\u00f8m Nyenget<\/a> in third.<\/p>\n

Snowboard: King Karl wins historic fourth gold<\/p>\n

Austria\u2019s\u00a0Benjamin Karl<\/a> defied father time and embraced gravity to become the first athlete to win four Olympic snowboard<\/a>\u00a0medals.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old Karl successfully defended his men’s parallel giant slalom crown, with\u00a0Kim Sangkyum<\/a> earning silver. In the small final,\u00a0Tervel\u00a0Zamfirov<\/a> of Bulgaria edged Slovenia’s Tim Mastnak<\/a>\u00a0 in a dramatic photo finish to claim bronze.<\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s big final, Czechia\u2019s\u00a0Zuzana Maderov\u00e1<\/a> won her first Olympic gold by beating Austria\u2019s\u00a0Sabine Payer. Payer stunned double Olympic champion Ester Ledeck\u00e1 in the quarter-finals en route to the final.\u00a0Italy\u2019s\u00a0Lucia Dalmasso\u00a0won the small final for the bronze medal.<\/p>\n

Luge: World champion Max Langenhan claims Olympic crown<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s\u00a0Max Langenhan<\/a>\u00a0added to his\u00a0luge<\/a>\u00a0pedigree, now boasting both the World Championship and Olympic crowns.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The six-time world champion finished half a second ahead of the second-placed\u00a0Jonas Mueller<\/a>\u00a0at the conclusion of the four-run event.\u00a0Italy’s\u00a0Dominik Fischnaller<\/a> captured his second consecutive bronze medal.<\/p>\n

Biathlon: France wins third consecutive mixed relay medal<\/p>\n

The French quartet of Eric Perrot,\u00a0Quentin Fillon\u00a0Maillet, Julia Simon and\u00a0Lou Jeanmonnot reclaimed the Olympic gold from PyeongChang 2018.<\/p>\n

Simon anchored the team to victory in a time of 1:04:15.5, beating the second-placed Italian team by 25 seconds. Germany rounded out the podium in third place, one minute adrift.<\/p>\n

Speed skating: Sander Eitrem powers to gold in men’s 5000m<\/p>\n

In one of the best performances on the day, Norwegian sensation\u00a0Sander Eitrem<\/a>\u00a0smashed the Olympic record to\u00a0claim gold in\u00a06:03.95.\u00a0<\/p>\n
