Billie Joe Armstrong and his wife, Adrienne, have been together for more than 20 years. The couple first met in 1990, during the early days of Green Day\u2019s rise. Billie Joe, the band\u2019s lead singer and guitarist, has built a career that includes multiple chart topping albums and five Grammy Awards. Adrienne has been by his side throughout that run, supporting him through touring, recording, and the pressures of international fame. Together, they have two children and have also gone into business as partners.<\/p>\n

As Green Day prepares to perform at the 2026 Super Bowl, attention is again turning to Armstrong, who remains one of punk rock\u2019s most recognizable frontmen. Curious to learn more about Billie Joe Armstrong\u2019s wife? Here are five facts you need to know about Adrienne Armstrong:<\/p>\n

1. Adrienne is from Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

Born in Minnesota in 1966, Adrienne (n\u00e9e Nesser) has two sisters: Natalie and Susan, and two brothers: Aaron and Steve. Her brother Steve<\/a> is a professional skateboarder. After transferring from Minneapolis Community College, she graduated from Minnesota State University in 1993 with a degree in sociology. \u201cI loved school, especially when I was in the more focused classes of my degree,\u201d Adrienne told the Mankato Free Press<\/a>, a daily local newspaper, in 2009. \u201cI graduated in 1993, but I had turned in a paper after one of my classes ended, and the professor never posted the grade. I had to call the school to argue the fact. They finally sent my degree in 1996.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adrienne first met Billie Joe Armstrong in 1990 after attending a Green Day show in Minneapolis, the band\u2019s first performance in Minnesota. She asked Armstrong where she could buy the band\u2019s CD, and the two stayed in touch by phone while he toured.<\/p>\n

\u201cBillie Joe and I were friends first,\u201d Adrienne later said. \u201cWe never tried to be exclusive.\u201d At the time, she was in an on and off relationship, and he was dating someone else. After graduating from college, Adrienne ended that relationship and spent nearly a year single. She saw Armstrong occasionally during that period, but the relationship became serious after she moved to California, where it quickly progressed.<\/p>\n

3. The couple got married in 1994.<\/p>\n

The couple married on July 2, 1994 in a very private ceremony<\/a> held in Billie Joe\u2019s backyard, attended by only a few friends and family and according to Rolling Stone<\/a>, Adrienne discovered she was pregnant the day after the wedding. \u201cI don\u2019t want to grow up too fast,\u201d Billie Joe said months after getting married. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t think having a kid and being married means that has to happen. My biggest fear is becoming domestic. It seems like when people get married, they don\u2019t have fun anymore. I totally want to walk around the streets with Adrienne. We like to Dumpster dive. That\u2019s the funnest thing in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two decades later, they renewed their vows<\/a> at the Las Vegas Neon Museum in a \u201cvintage grunge-style\u201d ceremony in front of their children and families.<\/p>\n

Joey was born in February 1995, and Jakob was born in September 1998. Like their father, both sons have become musicians. Jakob, who goes by the stage name Jakob Danger, recently recorded a cover<\/a> of David Bowie\u2019s \u201cHeroes\u201d with his dad Billie Joe for Survivor\u2019s upcoming 50th season. \u201cI don\u2019t think I knew that making music was my vocation until, honestly, I was 18 or 19,\u201d Jakob told Guitar World<\/a> in 2023. \u201cI had already graduated high school and I\u2019d been playing with the guys in my band for a long time. I tried going to college, but after about a year I realised that I did not enjoy it. I missed playing music so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adrienne and her friend, Jamie Kidson, co-founded Atomic Garden, an eco-friendly boutique selling home goods, skincare, jewelry, and other products.
