in paragraph 1)<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Feb 10 (Reuters) &#8211; Alphabet said it sold bonds worth $20 billion in a seven-part offering, tapping the \u200bdebt market to fund its surging spending on <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> \u200cinfrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Big Tech&#8217;s appetite for debt is surging, after years of relying on strong cash flows \u200cto fund investments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Alphabet is also planning a debut sterling offering that may include a rare 100-year bond, the tech industry&#8217;s first since a Motorola issuance in 1997, according to media reports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Big Tech&#8217;s pivot to the bond market, \u2060however, has raised investor concerns \u200cas payoffs have not kept pace with the huge AI spending from U.S. tech giants, while businesses adopting the \u200dtechnology have so far seen limited productivity gains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Capital expenditure from Alphabet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/organizations\/microsoft\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Microsoft;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a>, Amazon.com and Meta Platforms is expected to total at least $630 billion this year, with most \u200bof spending focused on data-centers and the AI chips that power \u200cthem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">The seven tranches of Alphabet&#8217;s dollar notes mature every few years, starting in 2029, and go all the way up to 2066, according to a regulatory filing on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Some analysts said Big Tech&#8217;s greater use of debt reflects a pivot from asset-light models toward long-term infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">&#8220;Century bonds are \u2060usually the preserve of governments or regulated \u200butilities with very predictable cash flows, so \u200bthis deal shows that, at least for now, investors are willing to take on very long-dated risk tied to AI \u200dinvestment,&#8221; said Lale \u2060Akoner, global market analyst at eToro.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Oracle had also disclosed a $25 billion note sale on February 2 in a securities filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">The AI hyperscalers &#8211;
