MUNA<\/a> have returned with new single \u2018Dancing On The Wall\u2019, and announced some intimate live shows in the US and UK. Listen and find all the details below.<\/p>\n

The song serves as the title track of the LA trio\u2019s fourth studio album, which will be released on May 8 via Saddest Factory Records\/Secretly Group. Pre-order\/pre-save here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Dancing On The Wall\u2019 is possibly our favourite song we\u2019ve made as a band,\u201d MUNA explained. \u201cWe think it\u2019s all the best parts of MUNA \u2013 it\u2019s coming from a really emotional and lonely place, but the song itself makes us feel powerful and euphoric.\u201d<\/p>\n

They continued: \u201cIt\u2019s written in the moment that the clock strikes midnight at the ball, and you have to give up the fantasy. In this case, it\u2019s the fantasy of loving someone or something that can\u2019t love you back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m dancing on the wall when I\u2019m with you,\u201d MUNA sing in the chorus of the upbeat, \u201980s-influenced pop track. They express their frustration over an absent object of their desires, and the uncertainties surrounding the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI should\u2019ve told you not to waste my time\/ But you\u2019re so magnetic, it\u2019s like what\u2019s the use,\u201d one verse goes. \u201cI would wait forever, as long as I\u2019m waiting for you\/ I can feel you so close\/ No more than a stone\u2019s throw\/ Looking for a window\/ But you\u2019re the one that I keep banging my head against.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the band\u2019s label, the upcoming follow-up to MUNA\u2019s 2022 self-titled third album<\/a> \u201ccaptures a heightened emotional intensity, balancing propulsion and introspection, euphoria and unease, a world that feels urgent, physical, and alive\u201d.<\/p>\n

Produced by the band\u2019s own Naomi McPherson, the LP \u201creflects a fiercely self-directed creative vision, rooted in instinct, trust, and total artistic control\u201d. The description adds: \u201cIt\u2019s a record that sits comfortably in tension, inviting listeners onto the dancefloor while keeping its inner world deliberately unresolved.\u201d<\/p>\n

To celebrate their return, MUNA will play a series of intimate underplay shows in LA, New York and London this May.<\/p>\n

2022\u2019s \u2018MUNA\u2019 marked the group\u2019s first album as an independent act, after signing to Phoebe Bridgers\u2019 Saddest Factory Records<\/a> the previous year.<\/p>\n

During a Cover interview with NME<\/a>, the band spoke about being dropped by major label RCA for \u201cnot making enough money\u201d. They said it was \u201ceasier in certain ways\u201d to work with an independent label, and that they now had a \u201clot of creative freedom\u201d.<\/p>\n

McPherson added: \u201cIt\u2019s hard to compare [the two labels] because we\u2019ve had such anomalous experiences at both labels, to be honest. At our old label, no one was creatively stifling us or telling us what kind of music we should make. And our departure from that label wasn\u2019t really even contentious.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re more likely to find people who you align with in terms of taste. You\u2019re maybe less likely to find those people in a more, like, large corporate structure. That\u2019s not to say those [major label] people don\u2019t care about art, but they just might not have the same taste.\u200b\u200b\u201d<\/p>\n

MUNA\u2019s Katie Gavin released her debut solo album, \u2018What A Relief\u2019<\/a>, in 2024 via Saddest Factory Records. McPherson made their acting debut in the biographical comedy film about SNL that year, titled Saturday Night<\/a>.<\/p>\n
