Picture: Google Street View<\/p>\n<p>In its application to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeindependent.co.uk\/news\/south-cambridgeshire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South Cambridgeshire<\/a> District Council, Realis Cambridge PropCo Ltd said the site has been \u201cabandoned since 2018\u201d and was now \u201cderelict\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The plans said: \u201cDue to the unstable nature of the existing brick building on site, retention and retrofit is not viable for the intended use of the development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, we believe that a replacement building, with fit-for-purpose and modern sustainability credentials will provide for an adaptable, useful and long-term solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposed 14.5-metre building will offer a \u201cflexible space\u201d to support the \u201cwider network of life science, tech and industrial activity\u201d in the area, the developers say.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1240 703\" alt=\"The former cafe and truck stop off Newmarket Road, Little Abington. Picture: Google Street View<\/p>\n<p>It would be built as an \u201copen shell space\u201d for future occupiers, with 27 car parking spaces, 20 per cent of which would have electric charging from day one.<\/p>\n<p>Cycle parking would meet the council\u2019s required standards.<\/p>\n<p>The council will determine the application.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An abandoned cafe and truck park could be demolished and redeveloped under new plans.
